There is one more thing to consider and that is the fact that any setup that requires speed to maintain depth without sinking can result in snagged lures, dipsys, inline wts, or bottom bouncers when fishing over the reefs or rocky bottom. Once the line out from Reel to (Dipsey, inline wt and lure) exceeds the depth of the water, snags become more likely while making a turn or slowing down or stopping to land a large fish simply because they sink like a rock.
If you snag a line on the inside of a turn you then have to make a choice of to stop and maybe snag other lines that are wt dependent or simply break off the snagged line and continue. The Jets and Tru-Trips are floating divers when not in forward motion and either remain neutral or slowly rise to the surface eliminating most of the snagging potential.Wakina

I also forgot to mention there is another option for depth control and that is a weighted diver made by OffShore Tackle. Off Shore Tackle TadPole resettable diving weight available in several sizes much like the floating divers previously mentioned. It works similar to the Jets and Tru-Trips but would sink when slowing down or stopping. They work well behind either make of inline boards.
They have been gaining in popularity for the last couple of years and have the advantage of being resettable in the water once tripped. If using harnesses there would be no advantage as you should check the worm/bait that was hit, so you would have to bring it in any how. If using a spoon or stick bait then simply reset and continue to fish like as before, jets work in a similar way. Tru-Trips must always be brought in once tripped as the Tru-Trips diving characteristics have been altered/defeated once tripped.Wakina
