    Default Hard knocks

Why wouldn't you want to use a kill switch especially when your out alone? If you have a keyed ignition and 25 bucks it's easy to install and safe. But now its a law.And would be easy to check if trailering your boat to any public launch .So for 25 bucks I will comply with the law.Jet skis had kill switches yearsss ago.I to am grandfather and my boats over 30 years but has key ignition so its easy to install.I would think any grandfather's would want to be safe and return to dock safeee!

Sure. If you feel more comfortable with these, and want to wear it, that’s great. But there’s a difference between that and making them legally required for everyone, including those who don’t want to wear it. Not everything that is thought to be a good thing by part of the people, needs to be therefor legally required for everyone. We are adults and we should make choices. I do not accept for a moment that not wearing a cut off lanyard is creating a huge danger to the public out there on the water.

I also usually wore the lanyard when I was alone on my old boat that had one. Especially in the central basin where there were few boats. But I don’t think we need a law that absolutely legally requires that the operator wear them in all circumstances. That’s what this law does.

I had my lanyard attached (model 207, 2004, twenty foot grady white) when taking our family (granddaughter request!) on an idling ride in West Harbor last week. Down one canal when I went to do a 180 turn, the lanyard wrapped around the steering wheel and disabled the boat. It took a few seconds to even figure out why I lost power, and then I spent a full minute unraveling it. No damage done, but I will not be wearing that again. I believe the law says that we do not need to wear it in no wake situations, but once it is attached I usually forget about it, so the same thong could happen when I come off the lake and try to dock. And why would the law pertain only to boats under 26 feet?
