I had my lanyard attached (model 207, 2004, twenty foot grady white) when taking our family (granddaughter request!) on an idling ride in West Harbor last week. Down one canal when I went to do a 180 turn, the lanyard wrapped around the steering wheel and disabled the boat. It took a few seconds to even figure out why I lost power, and then I spent a full minute unraveling it. No damage done, but I will not be wearing that again. I believe the law says that we do not need to wear it in no wake situations, but once it is attached I usually forget about it, so the same thong could happen when I come off the lake and try to dock. And why would the law pertain only to boats under 26 feet?
