My girlfriend asked if the thermocell would work. I kind of laughed at her, and thought. .. it can't make it any worse. Within 2 minutes, no more flies. We set it down on the floor by our feet and they almost immediately went away.

These things are between $20-$50 depending on what size you get. Refills are pretty inexpensive. The value of not kicking your own ankles or ruining your favorite hat by swatting at those biting bastards makes the $20 well worth the investment.

Guess I will quit laughing at the girlfriend when she suggests something unorthodox next time.
I feel so stupid writing this!!
We have a Thermocell on board and have spare mats and gas and never thought to get it out!

I find it amazing where the flies come from, I drove at 25 mph out 6 miles and within a few minutes the black flies had found us.
They certainly did not follow us out or back in.
When we sailed never saw any until we used the auxiliary diesel motor and then they would sometimes appear.
The attractant must be engine exhaust fumes.

The Thermocell will be ready next time!!
