Yes you can tell the difference. That's the only way I know to update your operating software on it. I ck every month or so to see if there are any new updates. Like I said it painless takes less than 5 minutes to do it. You download the update file on the sd card put in your unit and power it on and it reboots itself.

Just be sure to look what version your running, maybe yours was updated already mine wasn't and I bought it 4 months ago

    Default software update

I don't know how far you live from a Bass Pro,but if you take the unit in they will update it for free while you shop [just the head,no wires or transducer] even if you didn't buy it from them

I purchased mine around the same time I will have to get that done and in two weeks when I'm up,at the lake I can run it over to bass pro hopefully that helps because its just frustrating when you pay that much for something and it doesn't work right

I think this maybe be installation issue not software. If the transducer gets air between it and the water it will do this exact thing. So many times with in a set time frame it does this. That's why at 20 mph you are running out of water the transducer needs to be in the water on plain... this is why lower your transducer it will fix the problem

Thanks skipper9 so putting the transducer on more of angle instead of flat will fix this or do I have to move the whole mount down

No I think it will need to be moved down... when you are on plain air is getting between the tranducer and the water... move the whole mount down.. it will fix the problem... when you are sitting down and fishing it will cause the same problem in ruff seas... because it coming out of the water....
