First time on Erie was 1987, could see down maybe 2-3 feet. The week of 6/1-5/26 was such a contrast. Great water clarity away from shore and numbers of walleyes beyond belief. For us it's just crawlers harnesses (fewer hooks to hassle with than cranks) on #1 Tadpoles let out 50-55', 1.7-2.0mph seemed great.
Thursday 6/4 was superb, limiting for 3 by 11am after an 830am start, no sheep out there for us. 3 day total was 45. For us it is almost always N of Kelleys along the border in the clearer water. Had bought a new Ranger net at Walmart as we lost another earlier in the week. FORGOT to put it in the boat on Thursday so we landed the limits by a quick leader pull over the side, only lost 1.
I cut gills and bleed out always on way back to Mazurik. Love the new cleaning station there, thanks Ohio!
Thanks to Capt Juls for teachcng us 2 years ago on how best to use planer boards. Also used Church stern planers which took 1/3 of tbe fish.
Next June dates alreay set. Thanks Ohio and biologists for keeping this fishery truly world class.
