    Default Another Tough Day

Went out with a buddy this morning. We started jigging at Locust Reef and picked up one. Marked a lot of fish but few takers. We moved to Cone Reef for a short time and no luck. Moved again to Crib Reef and picked up two in 3 casts. Thought we were on them. Caught one more in the next hour and a half. Three were caught on 3/4 ounce dark purple and one was caught on 5/8 ounce purple and white. The wind was perfect today. We marked a bunch of fish at crib also.

    Default Re: Another Tough Day

We started Wednesday night for a couple hours. Went out of Fenwick. Their channel has one spot that was only 3' deep but it was no problem for my little boat. They have the emergency permit for dredging as soon as the wind will allow it.
The mud was back. We went all the way to Little Pickerel before it cleared up at all. Jigged for 20 minutes but wasn't feeling it so started trolling north of there. Graphed one nice suspended fish about every 10 minutes. Finally got a bite right before sunset and it was a big one. Too big for the net, really. And the 9-year-old was a little rusty with the netting duties so we lost that one at the boat. Fortunately, we hooked another just after sunset and landed it. Nice 28-incher. No eggs, no milk. This was less than a mile north of Little Pickerel. Both these fish hit on bandits that had chrome on them and were 50' back. 1.9mph.
Thursday, there was less mud. We passed the pack at Locust, passed the pack at Cone, igored the pack at Niagara and started trolling by ourselves at C can, heading towards Cone. Again marked one every 10 minutes or so but no bites. As we eventually got nearer to Cone, we marked them more frequently but never found any big concentration of marks. Trolled around the west side of Cone and finally got our first keeper of the day there. Then we fell in line with the pack at Cone and jigged. Got a bass right away but then nothing.
So we moved to Locust. Pretty muddy there by the time we arrived. There, we got a tasty drum and one more walleye. Saw some other boats around us pulling in walleyes but it wasn't happening for us.
So we headed northwest and went back to trolling. Barely got the first line set before a nice 24" male hit. Wind was picking up pretty good by then. We trolled for a couple more hours with no more bites before calling it a day.
We never found any big schools, never came close to limiting - but we did get some protein, and it's always good to be on the lake.
