Draggin The Line With John
John and i got out for our first fish of the season this past Sunday. Forcast was for a light south winds with no rain. I called my charter buddy saturday and asked if he was fishing Sunday. He said he had a charter scheduled but wasnt going to fish in the big pack of boats between Kellies and S bass again. He said he was going to head west and find some fish on his own.I told him i was going to do the same and would text him when got some lines out.We ran out and found some nice marks and put the lines out.Had a board go back while putting the 3rd rod out.A great sign to start! Went 3 for 4 during the first 30 min.Turned around and got the rest in a couple more hour.We fished from 8-1030.Speed was 1.6mph.Water temp was 43 degrees.Fish wanted white based colors.White perch and RC crush caught 11 and one on purple.Leads were 90,80 and 65 unassisted.Fish were 19-27".Our 12 weighed 54 lbs at cleaners. Finally got to say we filled the cooler.Heaviest average we had ever gotten.Perfect day.

Good report! Just curious, was that pack near American Eagle or somewhere else? I have been checking these forums out lately (coming up next weekend) and hadn't seen anyone mention that area yet. Only seen way further west and the reefs out west too. Thanks for the clarification!

Hey Tom!
I was out Sunday to get the dust off and we just fiddled around between S Bass and Kelly's. A conservative estimate; probably 200 boats between the 2 islands. Most were south of South Bass and just East of South Bass in anywhere from 20-30 ft. Most boats in the 20-25' were jigging and we went north to 30' and started marking suspended fish around 20'. Mid-day bite sucked for us, but again, we were just blowin' off the winter dust.
I looked to American eagle and there were maybe 2 boats on the reef.

Thanks for the info! That area and especially the green can right there are favorite stops of mine because I can hit it for 1-2 hours with the little toddler aboard on our way to "the fun spot" (either island lol). Just kind of surprised to hear so many boats in that area this time of year already and that there wasnt a peep here on the forum. Might have to give that a shot if it is still productive next weekend when I get out for the first time. Always nice staying a little closer to E harbor (we are at skipper buds) than having to run way West to the reefs or north to rattlesnake/green.
Thanks again fellas and tight lines!

Re: Draggin The Line With John
I had been to our lake house the previous weekend of April 5 and 6 th.I can see boats fishing around F can from our place and there was a good pack of boats fishing there that weekend. When I got up to our place April 12 there were only a couple boats out by F can.Apparently the blow that week had muddied up the waters too much to catch. So the fisherman moved East to find clean enough water to catch .It seamed that some of the waters West of the islands cleared up enough to catch last Sunday.Which was around 18" where we were fishing.
