past two weeks chasing walleye on a few trips
last weekend was a tough cold front weekend for the walleye for me. Saturday 10/3 we just couldn't get anything going. We tried every bait in the boat at different speeds and depths and just couldn't get a good bite going. We caught enough for the fish fry they had planned but the bite was super slow.
Sunday 10/4 was better once we figured out the fish where very high in the water column north of Huron Dump. We ended up getting 16 walleye on bandits 45 to 60 back no weight at 2 mph.
Friday 10/9 we worked an area north of Kelleys island with some structure and we caught 17 walleye 4 catfish and 3 perch on a combination of bandits, husky jerks and bottom bouncers with worms 1.5 to 2 mph. it was a slow bite but a very nice day to fish.
Saturday 10/10 We fished straight out of huron in 40' of water and had to troll north with the waves. The bite was very good we ran bandits 60 to 100 back no weight at 2.0 mph and boated 30 nice walleye. The waves off shore where 4 to 5' and running back in was a battle but all in all it was a great day of walleye fishing. The fish are getting closer to shore and starting to settle into the fall pattern the fishing should start to get very good and more consistent I hope. The wind will be our challenge the way it is looking.
