    Re: Help a newbie out?

I have 4 rods now all 6' or 6'-6" ugly sticks with medium flex and 6-14 pound line rated. I use these for casting, perching and trolling.

By trolling I'm using them to "flatline" off the corners....

    Re: Looking for Braid Recommendations

Keep in mind the pound test for your braid setup is important. I start with 30#braid on my trolling equip but 20# braid on my casting. I use a 20# leader to weights, stickbaits, spoons. I tie my...

    Re: New Angler - Vermilion

If you are trolling, use the countdown method to determine approximate depth. I recommend starting with harnesses and spoons, but stickbaits are good too.

    Re: Looking for Braid Recommendations

I've been using the same 30# spiderline as BB. I have 14 years on my first set of reels and will use them again tomorrow.

I will advise you though that cranks get better hook ups on mono. And...

    Re: Anybody help a weekender?

I've had success running Hot n Tots flatlined with no board. In WB about 45-60 back with a 2oz. weight 5 feet in front of them. I've used them similar areas between all the islands on west side. Also...

    Re: Midges. What to do?

Who are you Pitcher Chamberlin. I cannot believe you are worried about midges. They don't bite, they don't multiply above the water.
They live for no more than 2 days out of water, usually 1 day.

    Re: Anybody help a weekender?

chx-wing - The way I determine the direction of current is to start trolling directly down wind with a dipsy on each side with same settings and lure. But the lure is not necessary for this. Make All...

I use MODIS most times but you need cloud free days to get images.

I could be wrong but I've always heard a WB report with G can being on the firing range. Doubt many are going to the line for perch.

Re: winds from the East fish bite the least ?

I've had good days with strong NE winds and I'm no pro. Charter captains aren't going to cancel a day unless its blowing over 15.
You've got to find the fish that want to eat. That simple.

Re: How to get bigger perch?

Yes I use a size 4 hook to start. many of the smaller perch won't get hooked. We throw back any unharmed fish under 8 inches.

I have found the "lay it on bottom" to work for better size before....

Re: Finally out for Perch from Catawba

Yes I know the scoops were generous. My buddy paid for 4 dozen. We caught all our fish, and threw back a dozen smalls and a few sheephead, and froze 3.5 dozen still alive after our trip.
