    Default Looking for Braid Recommendations

What braid works well with Dipseys and also behaves like the Berkeley 10 XT when using the Precision Trolling app? I'd like to be able to use the same rod for Dipseys or for pulling crank baits with in-line boards. I'm using the Sam's Pro release on the front of my boards. Braid color preference? Thanks!

I’m of the opinion that it doesn’t really matter. I have tried all kinds even the cheapest stuff on amazon. The cheapest stuff is worthless. Other than that any name brand stuff is pretty good. I found a huge spool of spider 30# in green. I have spooled every reel I have with it with a 20# mono backer. It’s been 3 years on some of them. I just cut about 50’ off each season and put a new snap swivel. Everything will be close enough the trolling app will be within a foot of line. I pull everything on the same rods.

I've been using the same 30# spiderline as BB. I have 14 years on my first set of reels and will use them again tomorrow.

I will advise you though that cranks get better hook ups on mono. And some believe they have more dart and action on mono. It is because of the stretch. I use mono to target 5-40 feet down and then braid for 25- 60 feet down. That's just how I think about it.

If I am out early in season, my braid rods I add 50 feet of 12# mono to use because most fish are higher.

Braid is a must on circle divers to me. Maybe preferred on jets too, but Everything else I can use mono. I have 4 braid rods and 4 mono rods.

I do run mono, or fluorocarbon leaders on everything except harnesses which I tie with about 6’ leader. Don’t be afraid of leader size as nothing you want is line shy. I have leaders up to 50#. When the sheep are hot n heavy I bump up. I even have a few harnesses tied with 30# mono so they don’t destroy them. I do like a 20# + sheep banging a spoon on a diver for fun. Behind boards not so much as they can cause some tangles.all the “pros” will tell you the right way to do things. Just try anything you can conjure up, and see what works. I drift little 1” cranks on bottom bouncers in perch schools. So many fish Ohio perch when everyone is minnow fishing catching 8”ers. There is no right, or wrong way. Have fun…catch a few fish! I will go limit walleye tomorrow, and there won’t be another boat within a mile of me lol!

Alot of the trollers use power pro 30# braid hi vis yellow for their dipseys.I don't know if it behaves like The mono they use for the precision trolling app.But I have read the the precision trolling app has the incorrect dive chart for dipseys. The dive chart that comes with the dipsies is more accurate. The problem with braid is it slips out of alot of the releases that go on the inline boards. But there are some releases that will hold braid. But we use mono for our inline boards. So got 4 braid rods and 8 mono rods for our fishing.

Keep in mind the pound test for your braid setup is important. I start with 30#braid on my trolling equip but 20# braid on my casting. I use a 20# leader to weights, stickbaits, spoons. I tie my harnesses with 20# fluoro for trolling and 15# fluoro for casting.

Make sure you are stepping down the pound test to the lure. Otherwise on a snag, you risk losing your line and If your braid is 30# and your fluoro leader to a bait is 50#, guess what breaks on a snag?
