Midges. What to do?

I've had my boat infested with midges. Is there anything to do to minimize. Going up to Erie next week with high temps and humidity and low winds. Fans, leaf blower, any ideas? Change spots?

You can tell from 540 view and no replies you are not alone.
Sometimes staying away from warmer water areas can help, but once they find you they stay onboard.

Last time they got me they weren't too bad until I motored out to Gull Shoal. I don't know if it was because it was shallow, or warmer water, but as soon as I took it off plane I was doomed.

I will take the midgets instead of the biting flies any day but agree they are a nuisance. The only thing you can do is try to ignore it.

I'll take the biting flies over the midges any day. At least you can defend against the flies. The midges are not only more in number, but they get EVERYWHERE in your boat....all the nooks and crannies, air intakes....ugh. No thanks. Need some wind to keep them away.

mosquito head nets are a must for midges.

If they are still on your boat when you get home, throw a tarp over it and set off an insect bomb inside...at least those won't multiply !
While your on the water, look into a " bug suit"
I bought one years back, for being in the woods. It is a jacket and pants made from light weight mesh, fluffy and followed so the netting stays an inch or two away from your skin or under clothing. Mesh is super fine, bugs can't get thru, even no-see-ums can get thru ! Vail comes over your face to keep them from landing there. Have not run into midges in years, but if and when, the bug suit is always ready.

My wife wants to know where I can order one of those for her frankly if I had to wear one of those fishing I would quit fishing

Looked up mine and it appears the original maker sold the company. However, lookup " bug suits" at both Wal-Mart and on Amazon as they have pics that look just like mine. See thru fine mesh, not heavy or awkward to wear. My jacket is over 35 years old, takes up very little space, great for buggy conditions. Now they are around 30-40 bucks for the jacket and same for pants. Both places show pics that look like mine.

Who are you Pitcher Chamberlin. I cannot believe you are worried about midges. They don't bite, they don't multiply above the water.
They live for no more than 2 days out of water, usually 1 day.

Use a leaf blower and wear a neck kerchief if you want to.
