Yes rods do make a difference BUT they are only a small part of the whole equation. There is a few other things that come into play I can point you in the right direction. Also I can get you anything you may need IE rode, Reels, Line, Boards, Realeases ect. call me after 6ish tonight. it will be so much easier on the phone than here (not that im trying to keep secrets) just too much to go over to type....lol call me at 716-796-5372 thanks Jim

I too will be adding planer boards to the arsenal this year and have been studying all winter. I attended 2 of the LOTSA walleye seminars provided by charter captains, 1 in Erie and the other in Buffalo.
One of the common practices by both was the use of lead core. Both used a system of Mono backer, a length of lead core then another length of mono or Fluorocarbon leader. Also a small inline swivel out on the end.

Thought i would pass along, hope it helps.

I may have misspoke, seminars I attended were part of the Erie Sport & Travel Expo. www.sportandtravelexpo.com/Default.aspx Very informitive. Captains were more then willing to pass along tips and tricks.

"LOTSA" was on much of the literature being past out. Fishkiller can you tell me more about LOTSA? What it stands for, what they do? Thanks (Maybe this should be another post) sorry.

That was Greg From Eyemax Tackle he had a guy come up to him and tell him there was an article in "some paper" that said that, but he couldn't remember exactly what the article said. Greg thought the guy was just trying to spur up a rumor. There is no one trying to make them illegal. I heard a rumor also saying because they are lead they would be illegal in NY, BUT the law reads all lead sinkers under 1/2 oz are illegal. The Torpedo's start at 2oz's.

The 1/2oz and under law is so migratory birds don't eat them. Split shots n such. Same reason steel shot must be used for waterfowl. (If anyone was wondering). I do miss the lead though. Hate these new alloy splitshot.

    Default Rods

I use Daiwa heartland 7' 6" planer board rods, run 3-4 out each side. If all rods match it's easy to tell if there's a small fish on.
