Very few throw backs 10 to 13 inch average.
Barry . I bet that's got you thinking. :) It does me too.:)
Fresh tasty perch fillets. Sizzling in a cast iron pan, with butter and some minced garlic. Mmmmm.
Any reports of any perch moving into the Upper River? I know it's early but I'm getting anxious.
Caught more perch than walleye this morning trolling harnesses for eyes, I think next Tim I'm gonna go for perch, 70-75 fow in front of silver creek, marked schools after schools of em on bottom
Thinkin of headin out for perch this weekend. Anyone else going out?
Lineman so hit us with the info from the oak, how was the lake that wind seemed to switch westerly this afternoon could of got bumpy out there. My plan is sunday morning to take my nephew out to refind a big king to redeem himself lol. Copo good luck on perch. If ya get out could be some good eats for ya.
Went perching yesterday(Mon.) out in front of the Catt. 63 fow. We (3) got 50-60 only 2-3 over 13" most were 10-12" . A couple of boats were right on them & were pulling in doubles of some bigger fish. The lake was flat & hot until the clouds came in & a nice breeze. Better than a good day at work! :p lol.
every time I went to daves bait his minnows were small couldn't even put them on a hook
Has anyone sifted through the emeralds with an umbrella net to find bigger ones ? Maybe thrown the net deeper outside the schools? I haven't been down to ferry yet to see but it's a possibilty
dec page said there are minnows at the foot of ferry
went to ft of ferry this morn all kinds of minnows if you go in the corner there alots of smalls one go down the wall about 30 to 50 ftand drag you net along the wall there moving up got plenty to salt in 10 min there a bit larger along the wall yellowpike1
All emerald shiners work for pech out on the lake. You just have to let the size of the bait tell you what size of hook to use. I was using pinheads and a #8 hook 3 weeks ago and the fish were annhilating them. Big perch feed on what's available. I'm not afraid to head out on the lake with pinheads but big minnows stay on the hook a little better.
Perch fishing in the AM, going out of the Catt. will report on action. No minnows at Ontario st. & too much crap in the corner at ferry st to get them, me & 3 other guys tried with no results! :(
went to FT of ferry yesterday around 11:30 AM, first try all sea weed, second throw got a good amount of Minnows, after that they got to spooky, Sun was bright water very clear, should have went there early morning, maybe better results. Did manange one full minnow bucket. Bait size not bad, bigger than pinheads. Also tried along the straight wall, bait was far out and limited in numbers, that was a no go. Fished tuesday off the Catt 67FOW half a day 50 nice keepers.
Fished 62 fow in front of the Catt. got 70 nice keepers between 3 of us. Used salted & goldens for bait.
My uncles went out 3 guys they boxed 150 from 8:00 am to 11:45am. They fished the Evangola area 65ft. of water they only had 1 throw back, they got their bait from Dave's. All fish from 10"-15" range.
We also bought bait from Dave. I like supporting local businesses but Dave gave us 2 scoops and there were approx. 25 minnows a scoop instead of 50 or 60 like he said. Lucky we were able to get the rest we needed from a friend who caught his 50 and left. Dave must have run out of fingers and toes when he was counting.
We get most of our bait at Daves also, but we have noticed his count seems to be short lately also. Millers gives has a better count it seems. Also as we figured the price didn't drop down to before vhs prices when they had to buy minnows from out of state!
Anyone have any other spots to dip your own emeral minnows other than Ferry,Ontario, Sts. or Sherdian boat ramp area? I was told under the new bridge where the canal/channel is near where the old republic steel plt. was. only not much parking close there.
Anyone been perchin out of sp?
Rollin, Rollin , Rollin. The lake is really Rollin. Rogue Wave. Lol
Went out yesterday . Out of SP. West to 66 ft. Moved twice. First stop nothing. Went NNW to 66 ft around a bunch of boats. Constant non stop action. Some small most fair size. Ended up with 194. Best day EVER. Then divided them up and the cleaning started. It went on for a while - a long while.
194, thats a lot of cleaning! congrats, I guess.
