Very well said Bailey. Your right 99 days until the marinas open. Fishkiller Jim - did you see the new HDS Gen2 fishfinders at the shows? Is it that much better? I have an HDS5 and only a few years old and it's obsolete. When I'm out on the lake and get close to the Canadian Boarder I try to zoom in the boundry line disappears. I have to zoom out to get it back. Do you experience this? Do any of the Navionics Maps have the capabilities to show the US / Canadian line when you zoom in? Does anybody have any input?
Thanks,

Fishing in March?
With the crazy spring that we are having, it is starting to seem unlikely that there will be much ice this year. The forecast is predicting another 40 degree day tomorrow, and more 40's for the start of the following week.
I believe that the lake did not freeze in 2006. How did this affect fishing that year? (NB: I did not have a boat at that time, and I was not fishing much on lake erie).
Is it reasonable to think that we may be fishing in March??

My navionics shows the border contures and depth I like what I have and along with gps can't be beat.

Capt. Joe check which software version it is running there may be an update to take care of that issue. I had some issues with my 27c doing the same thing among some other things and there was an update i uploaded it to a sd card and installed it and no more problems. turn on the unit go to the menu select software version it is running then look on lowrances web site to see if there is a newer software version for that unit. it will also tell you what the updates will fix.....jim
-
Thanks for the info. There have been many updates for my unit and I have completed them all and I am up to date. Although the same thing happens. I contacted Lowrance and they said something about trying a different software. They did not state which one. I bought my unit at West Marine on Niagra St. in Buffalo. They suggested the same thing but would not commit it any specific type. I was woundering if you ran across the same issue? I wouldn't mind upgrading if I was sure that it would work. $$$$

just wanted to say hello im new this site and walleye fishing. just started walleye fishing last year i leave from the sbh most of the time
-
Welcome aboard milt you picked the right site.
-
-
thx guys glad to be aboard
-
Hi Milt! Do you moor at the SBH or launch?
-
i launch at the sbh and i go to sturgen point also.captjoe my lowrance 527 doesnt show the us/canada line with the fishing hot spot map card its showsthe line without the card
-
I contacted Lowrance and asked them the question about the US / Canada boarder vanishing when I zoom in. They stated "Since you are not going to be using this HDS-5 in any Salt Water or Ocean
waters, then you would want to purchase either the Hot Maps Premium or Hot Maps
Platinum. The Premium will provide a detailed 2D map and the Platinum will
provide the 2D plus a 3D map as well"
Is anyone using any of these maps? What do you think? Are you satisfied with them?
Fishon51- The only thing that i heard was the last time the lake didn't freeze the fishing was not good that year. I hope that information is incorrect.
-
ialso read somewhere the fishing is bad when the lake dont freeze
-
I am hoping the lake will warm earlier and provide better fishing most of the fish are resident fish if not all of them on our end. They still need to eat and spawn so the should be drawn up into the shallows for the start of season. So my thought is its gonna be a good year.
-
I agree, but it may screw up the thermocline mid to late summer just like this year when the lake got too warm.
-
Yeah that was nuts warm from top to bottom in a lot of the lake. Its different than lake o for sure to me.
-
Well winter is here today 6-8" here in North Java so far for the day. We went to the Southtowns Walleye Assocation Installation Banquet last night we had a great time, there was a live band, chinese auctions, silent auctions, open bar, and great food. We will be going every year from now on.
-
Jim - you were in my neck of the woods yesterday. I grew up across the street from where the Banquet was. As a matter of fact I broke my leg there when it was a roller skating rink. That was in 1974. Are you going to the
Southtowns Meeting on Thursday the 16 th?
-
-
I'm going to try to make it. I'm 90% sure.
-
I got a shot of adrenlin this weekend. There is a new addition to the family. I found out that the boat came in. I'm getting pumped.
-

Half the team were my relatives. My 2 sons played and my nephews played. I was the pitcher. One of the pitchers. I'm still pitching and my two sons are also playing. I'm kinda related to one of the two owners.
-
what league did u play a b or c
-
At that time I believe it was B league. I played in both leagues at several times through the years. I'm still playing in B league for LA lounge.
-
I feel like I am watching another beautiful walleye fishing relationship blossom LOL. Hey jim ill be in lockport the 26th looking for ya.
-
i played in the c league we never moved up i guess we thought we would get our butt kicked the pitching seemed so much better i hope so bailey so guys are alright and you dont mind sharing your tips you guys are real fishermen there are alot of jerks out there ask them a question and they think your asking for their first child
-
Sorry to go over some old softball war stories. Probably some of you are saying this is a walleye web site and we should keep to that topic. I just admire and respect the people that step onto a baseball / softball field or float around on their boats fishing. Milt - I have learned more from this web site, and the people on it, in the last year and a half than I did in many years fishing.
-
I just saw a good chance for humor hell its off season best time to make friends and know we all will benefit from the people we meet. Fish on and chat away it don't get serious till may lol
-
Well it got real quiet here lately. Hey capt what's up with that new boat? I know fishkiller been busy with the sponsor thing going on. Im just working on house amongst other things getting so ready to burn some gas on the pond. I am wondering the way the weather patterns have gone if a few males will be in the creek soon. Wouldn't mind getting a couple for the fun of it throwing mr twisters. Good chance I could hook a nice steelie and watch the tail dance. But ready for the spring surf n turf fresh eyes with side of turkey.
-
Right now I'm at the Southtowns Walleye mtg. Learning on how to catch walleye. I caught up with Jim. He's giving me options on how to outfit the boat. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.
-
I would've went but pressed for time lots of work to do at home
-
Yeah I hear you. Jim mentioned that you are busy with the house situation. It was the first time I went in a while. When I was getting the fishline it would come after the meeting and I would say I wish that I knew sooner. I heard that they are going to get them out sooner to us. That would serve as a reminder.
-
Well I'll tell you. I just bought, and it was delivered last week, a Striper 2101 walkaround. Captain Jim and his fishing partner Jim had some GREAT Ideas on how to rig my boat. Some of the things that they mentioned I didn't even think about. They got me thinking. They had suggestions on who, when and where to get the best prices, quality and options available . They suggested going to the LOSTA (I might have it wrong) flea market on Feb. 26 in Lockport at the Niagra County Fair Grounds. Don't quote me on the description of where it is. Jim, please clarify the site location. Im' sure that there will be more info. on that here as it gets closer to the 26 th. Did anyone else attend the meeting?
