Wow! That's good to hear. Way to go. :D
Meeting tonight. Who's going? I can't make it.
I would keep it bone stock no high performance cams or big carbs. I have built several marine engines over the years and its not worth building a high performance motor as your hull is only designed to go so fast no matter how much hp you put thru it, not to mention you better have minimum a Bravo 2 outdrive to handle anything over 300 hp. In my experience go with a stock cam, Edelbrock low rise intake (due to clearance issues on dog house) Edelbrock 600 cfm marine carb jetted down for trolling purposes, and stock cast iron heads. No aluminum heads due to oxidizing issues in water jacket from electrical discharge. You need reliability over speed 35 mph is more than fast enough for a walleye fishing boat. It would suck to be out 10 plus miles and have a failure due to much hp. Just my opinion its a been there done that type of deal....lol
I'm not going crazy, vortec heads are gm factory truck heads. They are just real good factory heads. Used from 1996-1999. Edelbrock vortec intake. I abosolutly hate edelbrock carbs. So will use holley 600-650 cfm. And a small marine roller cam (smallest marine roller cam comp makes)212 218 @.050. I already have the short block. Putting vortec heads on a 260 mercruiser is worth 30-40hp across the entire power band with nothing else changed. This engine will be kept mild. Just matched components. We're even setting the block up to run the factory gm roller rockers that were used from 1987 n up. First thing I wrote down on paper. Was it Must be reliable. It must idle all day. Nothing exotic.
Sounds like we have a couple of motor heads here. Good to know. Nice! :) lol
Joe's Spot - great job on the late season catch.
Were you fishing out of Buffalo or further West.
I'm looking at one last run for eyes'.
Thanks
Wow. You guys talk the talk. I'm impressed. :D
It's a good thing so many have knowledge of engines and marine power trains, I myself am handy with a wrench and trouble shooting but i'll still pick others here for info myself. Also i know they as myself will offer opinions and advice. It's part of the network that's come together here. I will always say get involved it's not a click but good friends that became that because of walleye fishing and fishing in general. You can be a lurker and get what info we give out or be a participant and get better info. Many here know i'll help and share about anything i know so will most i know on this sight.
Look out!!! The grammar police are out in full force. Lmao
I can tell someone needs to get some time away from that dust he's always covered in at work already lol it's gonna be a long winter i can tell.
just out side buffalo harbor
I heard that the walleye go on the feed at the head of the river around this time of the year. Is that true? I am thinking of heading out this weekend. Is it worth my time and effort? Is so, what is everyone using to catch the walleye? Thanks
Tony
No fish - nothing (last Thurs) after trolling 3 hrs from departure buoy toward the WSW in 40-45 fow. I didn't expect any and the lake was flat. Used worm harnesses of course but not even a sheephead !
Maybe shallower water ?
Is anyone out there now? LOL The weather buoy says 11.5 footers. Yikes - that means the waves are 23 foot......
That's nuttin sissy's I would be out there anchored up for perch!!.....lol
Yeah if you have one of those navy anchors. Lol. That or the boat would be anchored on the bottom itself.
So what are the chances after such an epic eastern basin yr of fishing that next yr will at least compare of not beat this season?
I personally think it'll be another banner yr next season. Have to look back at what dec says was a good hatch. But with cleanup of spawn sites and such. I can only see fry hatch and survival to increase. Just. Think what all those 18-22 inchers are gonna be next yr. from the size of fish caught this yr. I think a new state record is coming shortly. Wish I had a scale that day we got that monster. Would have loved to seen the actual fresh live weight of that fish. I bet she was over 16lb before she spawned. Conecious has dec recorded 18lb eyes caught during electro netting. Lots of 15lbers too. So you know for fact that there is some crazy record breakers in there
This year will be hard to beat. Multiple 20+ plus fish days, a couple 30+ days. I think the northeast blows in June and early July pushed the bulk of the eastern basin fish all the way to b lo where there were stable temps and bait.
Great year but its hard to beat the last 5 or 6. Awesome fishing overall. Haven't even bothered perch fishing this fall. I love perch but simply can't see harvesting any with plenty of walleye fillets in the ice chest.
It wasn't the walleyes that the wind pushed in to the Buffalo water it was the huge pods of spiny water fleas that were pushed in. Then the emerald shiners and smelt came in to feed on them, which in turn brought in the walleyes. We had a big NE blow on July 20th that pushed the fleas towards the Catt and Dunkirk. After July 20 we caught all our fish between the Catt and Dunkirk.
I noticed a LOT of flies in the mouths of perch that I caught this year.
I got some hot new numbers from Fishkiller this year. Look where it put me. :D

It worked last night??? I can't get it to work now. ??? Damm Windows 8 and using a shared system now. ???
Copo when are you going to have computer school? :D
Hello, I'm new to posting on the board but have been reading it since last May trying to figure out how to catch more then one Walleye when I go out....Went out last Tuesday and trolled along the break wall near the north gap and my friend caught a 26in 6.25lb walleye on a chartreuse worm harness in 20 FOW. Went out Thursday and again I caught nothing using the same harness my friend caught the walleye on Tuesday in the same area. My Step dad caught a Small mouth. I cannot seem to figure this out and I would love to catch my limit just once!
You guys think Forest Gump and Lt. Dan will be out perch fishing today. Lmao. Might take the girlfriend down to hamburg launch later to see some 30 footers
Nice little walleye drift today. waves will be coming over the breakwalls for sure! Good day to watch!
The launch ramp docks at S P were under water. Maybe see some water spouts today.
