I get addicted to inland trout in April. They taste so good wrapped in foil on the grill with butter , garlic, onion and some herbs tossed into the chest cavity. I usually skip the bridges with all the city slickers and up or down with my fly rod where sneakers can't reach. Spring steelies are a blast too. My biggest steelie I ever caught was in spring. Right in the 25lb range. A male too. Next biggest was 17lbs. Male also. These are Lake Erie trout.
What I would like to do is a day float trip with the canoe for trout in may in the southertier. You can reach fish that would normally be unfishable.
The canoe thing would be a blast may have to jit ya up to make ya do it but if ee did itand i hear banjos i am running as fast as i can out of there lol. I've. Always wanted to do that myself. Or hunt way oit in swamp here the same way.
Well i am glad you own the canoe you do and didn't say you hollowed out a log you found on the shore lol then added out riggers to it. I want to catch a brooky I've never caught one i just want a pic or 2 and let it go i know some natives in southern Wyoming co. I think they are about the most beautiful fish there is semi locally.
They are native to clear creek and a couple others. Those are walking streams. Allen lake gets stocked with brooks, browns, n rainbows. The creek by me is stocked with browns and also has a few leftover bows in it from when they used to stock. Alot of the browns I catch are native ( no clipped fins) which means they are reproducing. Crayfish are a number 1 staple. Most browns caught had gut fulls of baby crayfish. I'll be tying some crayfish flies for this spring for sure.
Lol mike could you imagine trying to portage a hollowed out log canoe? Makes me laugh just thinking about it.
With a nice morning like today I have the urge to go take the shrink wrap off, hook up and get out on the lake. Yeah right! Do you think it's going to get cold and snowy again? :(
i hear you capt i feel the same way
Haha i thought it was funny when it popped into my head also. Today was a beautiful day although that south wind i am sure had erie rocking a bit. I wonder if the thaw will draw some chrome into the streams tomorrow i may take an afternoon drive to see. I am starting to thing this spring will follow the way last yr went.
Jim when is your trip west planned this yr?
may 4-12 and no you cant stow away in my suitcase capt joe all ready called dibs....lol
I am sure i'll be hunting around then at camp. Captain joe should sneak in and go be a good time. I gotta see what dates my hunting partner took off.
:D
Jim needs someone to bait the hooks and clean all the fish he catches. And with my luck he will have a record breaking week. I could be a good cabin boy. Maybe when I grow up I'll chose that profession.
Better to be a good cabin boy rather than a good alter boy can't remember if your hair was parted in th middle joe, lol i know very wrong but but funny. Bless you my son ha ha.
Lmao. Hahaha
wow!!!!! lol
I wish I could part my hair in the middle. Actually, I do have a part in the middle. The problem is that it's about three inches wide and goes from my forehead to the back of my head. It's a little thin there. It is a solar panel for a *** machine. :D Next year I may try charging the top of my head in the sun then stick it in the water and use it as a fish attractor.
Hay I just thought of something. Maybe that's what a good buddy of ours does to catch fish and win tournaments. He uses the reflection of the sun onto the water via his head to attract and catch fish. That may be his secret. ???
Nnnyeow. Too funny mike
Its gonna be a long winter i can tell lol.
Hay - the Toronto International Boat Show is happening now. If your interested.
I am not allowed in canada lol or it would be fun to go dream for sure
Copo to your comment x2 lol
3 for me. I was a slow learner. Which really sucks cuz my grandparents have a cabin/summer house on Wolfe island. I spent a better part of my childhood up there. To bad the st lawrance took a big hit with the VHS. I remember before authorities knew what it was. Seeing all the dead fish. Bass, huge Muskie, walleye. belly up on the bottom.
I learned fast only took one time but x2 still on the comment, canada made their money off me when i turned 19 lol used to go there every weekend had tons of fun but had to get away from the hill.
I believe the Boat Show in Buffalo at the Ralph is the last week in Feb. / first week in March. Something like that.?? I saw a commercial on tv but don't remember the dates. It only lasts a few days though.
Need advise on kicker/Aux motor shaft length. I'll be buying a Mercury 9.9 Bigfoot prokicker. It will be mounted directly to the transom (port Side) will not be using a mounting bracket. installing on an 18.5' crestliner. question is (20" or 25" shaft). Boat is only used on Erie. Thanks
STWA meeting tomorrow night. membership renewal due, sign up sheets for the sportsman show and walleye tournament.
Kicker motor good as long as water intake, cavation plate, & prop will be/stay in water take a few measurments.
Fishon - Take a few measurements. You do not want it in the water when you are on plane. It will cause a lot of drag and the prop will rotate (if in neutral) or if in gear cause more drag along with the skeg. Mine is just slightly above the water when on plane. I agree with Fishkiller for rough water. If you are buying it from a dealer he can stear you in the right direction. I should see you tomorrow. Keep in mind that when adding the added weight the transom will sit slightly lower in the water.
Thanks for the feed back guys.
Joe, Buying online, saving a lot. I got two different opinions from the WNY dealers so I thought I'd look for advise here. Seeya tonight.
