Ashtabula has been great not 2 far from buffalo. Worth the trip this time of year.
I counted my boat slips the other day and for nine trips I've gotten 132 walleye. mostly on harnesses and out of every port this year. 90 percent have come on the dipsys.
Another good day on the pond for Capt. Joe & Dave. Completed a 2 man limit. All sizes. It was slow at the start but then picked up. Many silver bass, white perch, one huge sheep head and a yellow perch. I thought the sheep head was going to cut my finger with the line. I was putting the 10 color out and setting it on the clip for the planner board line when it hit. I was just trying to clip it and had the line around my one finger. I said what the heck is this - either a big walleye, (was hopeing), a laker, a channel cat, or a sheephead. Yep a sheephead. Also had someone run over my port side big board. What a mess. But it all ended well. But we lost a good 1/2 hr to 3/4 hr of fishing. They apologized a few times. They said that they were netting a fish and wern't watching. We'll we all have been there. We have to keep on eye out for each other.
Capt. Joe, where did you launch out of and what depths did you concentrate on ?
Tony
Out of Sturgeon Pt. West about 5 - 6 miles. 68 to 72 ft of water.:D
capt joe I fished that area this morning all we caught was silver bass
thanks capt. joe

It looks like it's REALLY close to your spot !!
Well after a slow start the crew managed to get 8 big walleye. The spot looked exactly like the pictures looked. But sometimes a little rougher and sometimes a little calmer. We were out of Dunkirk today. It was slow at the start but around 12:00 we found them. Those whipper snappers were hiding. They moved a little from where we were getting them last week. A nice day out there. :)
last boat outing for the kids before school starts. We caught 43 nice perch then trolled up a dozen silver bass and a couple of nice 5-6 lb walleyes before noon. 84 FOW #1 dipsys 165 and 173 feet back on watermelon harnesses 2 mph. Perch were in 64 FOW to 66 FOW scattered in smallish schools. Launched out of the Catt. Nice way to end the summer with them.
Had my best day yet. Rough summer learning for me, some good some bad days, more bad ones haha. Out of the Catt -70's and fish were deep, one early then didnt find them until lunch. Ended up with a milion silvers, 12 eyes-all sizes/most on sticks-10 colors and riggers, some jumbos, and a unicorn. One monster 10.25 lbs. Pulled in a king -7 1/2 pound hen that engulfed a stick on the rig thought it was a steelie until got the blood washed off. Banner day for me, this is my first year with a boat. Heres a picture for proof. :D
went Saturday out of the Catt and got into a bunch running all Renoski lures. front hook removed. Dipsy divers and long lead core.
Copo- Natural hen with skein sitting up very high still
Capt Joe- I'd like to check out the club and try for some meetings. Weekdays are immensely tough for me, before dawn until after dusk takes its tolls. I have pulled 3 double digits this year so that has made up for the skunk days in my book. Hopefully next year with better electronics and some more dumb luck consistancy will prevail.
Yeah that would definately not be the size expectation for an ontario chinook ready to spawn. But none-the-less made the day.
Anyont been out today or heading out for a last whack at the eyes? Or is eveyone prepping for the snow?
I am going tomorrow, not far though maybe sturgeon.
I have nothing to report. :( I haven't been out. :( Babysitting, dog sitting, bad weather, windy. But i did make it to the Antique Boat Show yesterday at the BLC on Grand Island. What a bunch of beauties. :D
13 this morning by 1030, had to leave, steady pick at em, all mix sizes 15-30"not as many white bass, low 70's
Hey Rev,
I'm a PK myself so I'll help you out:). We boxed 11 off of Center road in 82-84 FOW today. Purple pink and watermelon harnesses and purple Renoskys. Ran #1 Dipsys 172 back on 2 setting with one line down the middle with the stick bait on 0 setting 165 feet back. 1.9 to 2.1 mph. Also caught one steelhead and about a dozen silvers with one yellow perch. Go get em! Launched out of Catt Creek but Dunkirk is just about as far.
By evangola, all on sticks and spoons
Dad is retired now but was a methodist pastor in Nunda, Indian Falls (pembroke), Cherry Creek, and others over his career. I use 5 to 6 foot flourocarbon leaders. Go get em!
Went out today with my stepdad and Uncle. We went out off sunset bay about 10:30am marked a LOT of fish in 63 to 68ft of water. We started with planer boards with worm harnesses and Colorado spinner, some double willow blade harnesses but the fish weren't interested...kept switching blades and beads still nothing, put out the only dipsy I have...a black #0 set to zero and I put it right out the back of the boat at a slight upward angle, line was out 210 on the counter with a homemade worm harness consisting of 5 salmon colored beads and one chartreus with a Colorado blade purple and gold...still nothing. So, I kept switching blades until finally they started hitting a #5 Colorado Silver streak UV Pink OJ blade about 2pm... I then switched the other 5 poles to the same harness and spinners without planer boards, put a jet diver on one and none of them caught fish....just the dipsy with braided line was catching...boated 6, eyes, lost a few due to my Uncle's bad fishing techniques. 5 were keepers 15 to 23in plus a couple perch and some silver bass....best outing since the end of June. Wish I had more cash to buy some more dipsy's, braided line and reels to setup 3 more poles before next year!
Call me at 716 796 5372 I have 4 used braid set ups Okuma Magda reels, on rods with 30# power pro. $200.00 will take them all they are ready to fish. I can also get the dipsys for ya. Let me know.
