Derald,

Thanks for the email. Once you catch your limit for a particular fish,
you must stop fishing for that fish.

Thanks,
Jason

I would like to know if while fishing on Lake Erie if you are allowed to
catch and release additional walleyes once you have placed your daily
limit of walleyes in your cooler or live well! Are you allowed to
continue to fish for walleyes on a catch and release basis or must you
stop fishing?
Thank You;
Derald

Sounds like to me the ODNR needs to get their act together. I just watched the "Wild Ohio" show and the Officer was dealing with walleye fishing and addressed the very issue of passing the pole. He said if you have your limit you can hook a fish and give your pole to your buddy who does not have his limit and he can legally reel in the fish. Catch was described as netting or taking possession of by touching the fish, which you could not do if you had your limit. According to the officer on the program, you can still fish for a species even though you have caught your limit as long as you did not keep or have in your possession more than your limit of that species.
