So Where are the Yellow Gold ? and when will they return to the Western Basin?
So, the weather has been very different this year, and the white perch are on fire when I go for the walleye. I could not get out in the spring much for the walleye, due to you know the weather, winds and rain. So now anyone have some comments on when the Yellow Gold will return? Late July, early Sep, Oct, share some info, this is not a normal year. Any comments will be appreciated, when its fishing its not catching, and so it goes.

The yellow gold are my family's favorite, so I need them to turn on quickly to get my freezer filled. Last year was a good one for me, still have a few pkgs left in my freezer. And yes, the avg size was larger which was great to see. Hoping things continue, but I am curious....where are these Perch at ?

Re: So Where are the Yellow Gold ? and when will they return to the Western Basin?
I've actually caught a couple perch on worm burners while trolling for walleye the last few trips. Last one was last weekend around G can where they should be. The other one was north of the dump where they shouldn't be.
But like you guys said, this doesn't seem to be a normal year. We limited on walleye over by G can last weekend. I can't believe they were in 22' of water this time of year.....

I'm seeing reports of perch being caught in Sandusky Bay in 10 feet of water. Not huge numbers, but a couple people seem to be catching over there fairly consistently. Definitely not a normal year!

July 23, 2025 update on the search for yellow gold
Fished my honey hole today, se of G can, 4 yellow gold, two keepers but they got a reprieve , 4 sheep head. I was using shiner golden mix , spreaders and no bling. I did not fish long, just seeing if they were active in the area. At the docks I learned they were catching them south of Green Island. Thursday sounds like a little longer leg trip for this ole dog, plan is to go early and get back to the porch to rest before is is too hot.

Good to hear, hopefully the passing of this next heat wave will draw them in. Can' t get out until after the 1st of Aug, still healing from surgery but should be good after the first, Mabry the perch were just waiting for me to get back out...lol...

Re: So Where are the Yellow Gold ? and when will they return to the Western Basin?
Today, my legs were short so I did not go to the south side of Green Island , went to the honey hole area SE of G can 20 fow.
Caught 14 yellow gold keepers in 3 hours, some farm animals and about 8 returns to grow up, anything that was gill bleeding, was kept. About 3 hours today, nice swing which I think helps with the spreaders moving the (shiner golden mix) bait around. Spreaders and no bling. I look for the marks on the bottom to let me know that there may be yellow gold before I set anchor. No white perch.
As you know I posted my honey hole gps coordinates on my album here.

Gut pile report for the 14 yellow gold caught on 7-24-2025.
Spiny fleas , and they were full of them. If you have a fish finder look for the green blobs near the bottom or about 2-3 feet from the bottom. These fish were eating good, I did not find any gobies but they were full of the spiny fleas.
It should not be long before this area heats up for the yellow gold.
I do remove the skin because that is the way my Lucky Charm likes them. After cleaning, 1.5 pounds of yellow gold. (wife is lucky charm).
