6/2 Report
Had our 6 lines in the water before sunrise this morning, east of the south end of Kelly's in 42 fow. Headed into the sunrise at about 2.7mph sog. Wanted to slow down, but the gas motor was at its slowest idle. Without the gas motor, the Minn Kota was using too much battery.
We had spoons and cranks out. Had our first 6 walleyes in the box by 7:18am, which is really good for us. Mostly caught on puple bandits and a purple flicker minnow. One on an orange spoon.
Then it slowed way down. We stayed on course until we were east of Kelly's Island Shoal in 46 fow. Kept marking fish here and there the whole way but bites were far and few between. Switchd to shinier colors as the sun rose in the sky. Put out a worm.
At the shoal we headed west. By this time, there were 95 boats in the area - north, south and east of KI Shoal. We still were not marking very many, and catching only about one an hour now. Made a long U-turn west toward Kelly's Island and then south until we ended up where we started. We had 13 walleyes by the time we were back at the south-east of KI.
It was about noon when we motored to north of KI. We marked tons more fish up there than we had east of KI. Started trolling on the north side, but then half our Church boards failed. Lines were just slipping through the releases. The didn't release, they just slid down to the lures. Funny that three went bad just today (only the starboard ones). Didn't feel like trolling with half our lines so we called it a day.
By the way, no construction at Mazurik's today as of 3pm. And the cleaning station was open. Had to wait in line at the ramp, and again at the cleaning station. There was a lot of fishing today, and a lot of fish were caught. A great day on the lake!
