I'm looking to try this out this weekend. Have any of you launched out of Cullen Park? Is there a better launch? Any tips on what tackle to use, or where to try it? Or are there better places I can try to go with a 17 foot flat bottom john boat with only a 10 hp motor on it.

With your boat I would launch from the Luna pier public ramp. It is not near as nice a ramp and not as deep but should not bother you. IMO it would be a much safer ride and it is closer. It gets shallow with sand at the mouth, so trim your motor up.
