Yea, talked to Mark from KingFisher charters today & he said the same thing about the kings being out deep yet. We hope to get up there again for them, they fight a bit better then those walleye boots we drag in, but the eyes do taste better!

My buddy took white city out for shake down run at the oak all well they missed a few had a break away but managed quite a few lakers and steelhead on the mix worked out to 80 fow.
Going back up to big lake O. in the AM & try it again.:)
Lineman not sure if it got posted to lake ontario united but i know 2 guys who were out of the oak Monday and both boats went over 50 fish each for the day. Slammed them those are unheard of numbers. Lakers steel and kings mixed in.
That sounds like good perch #'s lol. My buddy that went with me the other day said they had 30 - 40 fish days 20 yrs. ago but never had the size that they are now days for the browns. They sure are some nice size fish & really healthy looking. Fun to catch!
Sure some better info on one boat would be up on maybe fb or salmo charters i believe is name . Its the good ole days returning.
Gentlemen,
Was wondering if any of you had any suggestions. I normally fish Lake Erie for bass, perch and walleye, but was hoping to take a trip to the Oak, since I live fairly close by. Thing is I have no idea what techniques to use to land a few salmon or lakers. I do not have downriggers on my boat, since I typically drift fish on Erie.
Am I outta luck or are there some simplistic techniques that I could use that would make a boating trip to Point Breeze worthwhile?
Thanks fellas,
Matt
Matt more info what do you have boat - gear anything for any kinda trolling
I have a 20' deep V Aluminum Blue Fin boat with a brand new 135 hp Evinrude e-tec H.O. outboard. I do not have any downriggers. I do have a few dipsies, jet divers, etc, but am very much a novice at using them.
I am usually a drift fisherman. Trolling interests me, but there are so many facets to it intimidates me to be honest.
Matt
It can be done pm me your number . I'll give ya tips enough tomorrow you could fish sat. Spoons are a must some real hot ones out now. But if you have some it's a plus
Fished out of the Oak yesterday. Got 3 nice steelies,2 kings & lost a king at the boat. Great day of fun!
That sounds great.
Way to go Lineman! Those kings really amp things up on the boat.
I may head up and run a brown program later this week.
Took a trip to the oak sat afternoon around 1 at about 4 or so had 5 good bites one soft release one come off about 30ft back one spit hook at net my nephew dropped rod tip that fish was 25lbs all day. Landed 5lb steel and 15lb king. Now to say all fish were fought by my nephew who is 9yrs old and 50lbs maybe give or take lol. He did well on the big boys have to see if he can do better. I will say it is fun to watch his face when they scream away from the boat also more fun havin him ask for help just a min into fight but i made him do it on his own. I'd feel bad but every hit he was jumping to grab rods lol so sure his asking for help was just maybe instinct. I did at times pick up rod tip to get it high for him but wouldn't take rods from him just lend a hand. All he would say is this pole isn't one of those 10 colors is it lol.
Sounds like a fun day. Love to watch the little people handle the rods & fight the fish. I need to wait a few yrs. for the grandson to get to 50+ #'s. so the fish don't pull him in the water!
Fished the Oak last PM 4:30 - 8:30. Fished out in front 70-120 fow. Didn't mark much at all, very little bait, had one knock off. Got zero! :( 2-3 footers to start then she laid down.
Well "H"EYE STRUNG is headed for the oak in the morning lets see what the wind blew in sounds like it may be ok day out but hope water isn't all messed up.
Fished the Oak fri. PM. Got 1 laker & marked very little. Fished out to 300 fow. Marked most as we were packing it in ,in 147 fow. just before dark. Talked to a few guys all said it was slow all day.
Late start early finish today lol left the piers just about 715 and dropped 4 J plugs 2 down a few ft 2 flat lined did a couple passes and pointed north. Started switching stuff up to run deep and a flat line screamed away king hooked but after 5 min he let himself go. Worked 77 fow straight out great picture on bottom no takers though never marked a fish inside of 70 ft. Think the wind this wk scrambled things a bit. All in all fun time and left to beat the crummy weather. I even found a white baha with a blue stripe to follow but it just wasn't the same lol.
Was up pickin apples with my friends family. Stopped in Lewiston. Saw some salmon at the cleaning station that came from devils hole.
If ya like lake o pier and tributary fishing, go now the runs are in swing only to get better. This cold rain did the magic and pulled them in.
Lineman run big sticks, j plugs ,spin DRs right in close now start just before light in 10 fow like 2ft down on riggers just arc rods and flat lines 75ft plus back and plainers with 50ft leads off boards. As sun goes up and traffic increases work out deeper you'll know when to move because you'll find yourself getting lonely lol. As for colors black, green, firetiger, silver and bloody nose. Speed 2.5 to 3 mph in close i'll maybe be out pm tomorrow or sun am at the oak ch 80 .
Thanks for the info. , don't think I'll make it up this week end, maybe during the week.
Well went out at the oak last evening, the bite was hot 8 hits 2 hrs all on J plugs but had 5 break aways and 3 spit hook to be expected though i only ran 15lb big game. We were right out front 15 to 18 fow running 100 back and 7 to 10 ft down off balls. Should've had 20 pound line but oh well no complaints here.
Pretty good #'s, need heavier line as do I for those salmons! I guess when I did evenings I went too deep! Maybe I'll have better luck next time I get up there maybe this week.
Lineman get to the oak fish shallow from walls to 30 fow j plugs and big sticks 2.5 to 3 mph you'll be rewarded this week will be hot italready is. The last 2 days great there
Thanks for the info. Going up Wed. AM.
Fished the oak today ended up with 6 & lost 1. 2-browns, 2 steelies, 2 kings a few of each. Was a beauty of a day! Much better than a good day at work! :D
Ventured up to Olcott Pier the other night for the first time. All new to me and very interesting. Guess I needed glow in the dark cleos. Salmon and steelies were there, guys were getting them. Where the heck do you get a cup of coffee up there at midnight???? Long ride home to the southtowns and it was chilly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_dQ...e_gdata_player .lol to funny
That's at the bridge behind Yankee fly shop. And I almost think that's the lady from the fly shop. She's always been in a hissy over people "fishing" in her hole. She owns the property to the river. So she barricades it off and charges by the hr to fish in that cut. Where they are standing is where the wall collapsed into the river in that huge flood a few yrs ago. That lady got what she deserved for how she acted but not in front of her kid. That wasn't cool.
I'm all for a good a$$ beating in a situation like this she totally deserved that beating.
I can't get it. ?? It goes to a Google sing on screen. Is this revenge for my post?
Mighta deserved it but not in front of kids
Took a ride to the hatchery yesterday . Lots of fish in the river & the hatchery. Watched as they took eggs & milt from the salmon & how they run that operation , pretty interesting to see. They do it this week every year at this time starting the day after Columbus day it's worth the ride up to see. Also rode along the river & thru Pulaski many fish & fishermen! Didn't see any fights or arguements. lol
