Got 2 lakers got one in the boat & lost one rite at the boat just before the net. Got one at the bar & one by the Art park drift. Talked with charter caps. & they said the trout aren't in yet.( my luck) I knew I should have gone perching, but it was another beauty of a day!

Hey good luck out there, I have only fished the lower river once, on my one and only charter in wny and that was for lake trout at the mouth in the spring one year. That was a chilly boat ride LOL.

Fish report, Good day 9 fish on 6 in the boat. 3 lakers & 3 steelies. Felt good to get out!
What were they hitting just curious? Sounds like a good time i have something that prevents me from fishing the lower river. I'd love to do it but i can't do it. I've not been able to convince myself my rig is for it lol
Bailey, Fish were hitting both egg sacs & larger emeral shiners. All you need is your boat rod, reel, pencil leads & small hooks. boat control is needed. Go for it or do a charter for a day as we do. jmo.
lineman...good job! Fished Devils Hole last week (from shore) and got 1 small steelie. First time down there in 30 years. The stairs going down were pretty much ice and I started questioning my sanity on the way down. Thank god for studded boots. I had my boat up as far as the power plant years ago and that was kind of scary too, but sometimes you have to go to the fish so hopefully I will be down in the hole again tommorrow. 10 1/2' noodle rod with 6lb test makes for a great day. (if you hook into em') and the walk back don't kill ya!
For those with the itch to catch its time to hit the mudlines on lake o flat line stick baits in firetiger, silver, black n gold or other bright colors within 20 fow to 3 fow run plainer boards in shallow. You will be rewarded!! . They are hitting great already.

When i fish the o i head out of the oak. So if was closer to river i would go out pf wilson or olcott and if possible hit where warmer stream water is entering lake or in the mudline a bit more warmth and it'll really light up.
Fished off Olcott pier this afternoon and got 2 nice browns on krocodile spoons. Young guy in a small tiller was long lineing rapalas 100ft off the pier and I watched him take a number of fish. Convinced me that my rig will be getting uncovered soon!
Has anyone been out for steelhead lately?
Want to go for browns along the shore line if the weather warms up & the wind stops.
Lineman,...I had the same thought for going out of Olcott, but the weather does'nt look very promising. I can deal with the cold but that wind is a killer unless its a south wind. Every time I get pumped about getting the boat out, mother nature decides to torture me. Looks like I'll be back in the streams or lower river on shore for a while longer.
Had cabin fever so I hit Olcott pier again today. Muddy water, northwest wind, not much sun, "no fish". Had to check out the new steelhead rod though, and my spoons needed a washing. A few other folks out there, but I did'nt see anyone bend a rod. Seen a pic of a nice brown (16lb.) that a guy got off the dock right at the Olcott boat launch a couple days ago. I think as soon as the water clears up a bit the bite should be good.
This Brown was caught off the pier on Easter!!! I know the guy and it is a real pic. He released it too! 36"long-Did'nt have scale to get weight but it had to be at least 25#. Hope the pic comes out.

That's a bruiser of a fish. Considering that the state record is 33 lbs 2oz. And 38inches long. I'd say ur 25# guesstimate is closer.

Well if all goes as planned will be headed out of the oak tomorrow morning. The original plan for the day fell thru. Hope that sun warms the shore line and the wind blows for a bit today. Things are setting up to be a good day for the browns. Hopefully it'll be a good shake down run. Be nice of there is a dock in but doubtful . Last yr mar 17 they were in at the oak and 2 wks from now last yr i hit a 26 lb king in close off the boat WHITE CITY with capt jeff. I'll see what tomorrow brings.

I got out today to find crystal clear water no stain in it at all trolled east out of the oak looking for some color and none found . So turned west and phone rings and told there is color in the water to west so i worked my way over that way. I had a few hook ups before wind picked up wound up with one soft release at the net. More important is boat is ready to troll. I know of a few who had a decent day out there with perfect browns. 4 guys in pne little boat did well. They even managed a double i am thinking big boards did the trick not as jumpy in the chop while flat lining. It was nice just to be on the water. Its game on now.
Well got a call to help get my friends boat out of storage just to lend a hand and no problems getting it to his house, then while bs ing his phone rings and we got an invite to hop aboard with ed aka "Bite me" out of the oak. The water is gin clear could count pebbles in 20 fow. Found some stain and missed one then proceeded to land a few browns and a small coho. We never left to head over to lake till 1 pm. So not a bad trip for spur of the moment. Made for a good afternoon.
Giong to try for some browns tomorrow AM out of Olcott. Hope to get a few.
Don't be afraid to slip out a little and drag some spoons out to 35 fow there are some nice fish hanging around run riggers if ya got them 15 ft leads.

Look for stained water drag spoons black, charteous, . Or if you have some common i would maybe go wonderbread, frog glowfrog, kevorkian, maybe green monkeypuke, habenaro. Drag sticks also black n gold, firetiger, cold steel, black red belly, perch. Run 100 or so back off boards if you move deeper than shallows try some that dive a little deeper or add split shot or 2 . The 2 keys are warmer pockets of h2o and stain look for mud or green.

Had a good day, got 12 of 15 hook ups. All but 1 came on spoons off the boards. We did best just east of Keg creek (warmer water) in 12-15 fow. One small steelie & the rest were nice browns. Bailey, thanks again! :)
Glad to hear lineman thats a good day in any ones book. I'm perching on sun but one my best friends headed out on lake o tomorrow i am working but sure i'll get texts how he's doing. I know kings are hangin off shore but close.
