Very cool video Killer!
that was a cool video
Jimi, that was amazing!
I have heard that some people carry a blow up doll as another person. :o
LOL
It's about time Joe gives up one of his secrets , I'm guessing by fish numbers in comparison to last year she must've popped over the long winter we had lol . It was cold ya know
Anyone get out this weekend or was the wind to much??
We fished Friday in 5-6 footers, Saturday in 2-3's and Sunday in 4-5's with small craft advisories all 3 days ....ugh the life of a tournament fisherman. That's the worst part of tournaments, you must fish even if its bad. It separates the men from the boys I guess. Right?..... Lol
Sounds like rough rides for sure. How did you do any big ones?
If you were going out walleye fishing tomorrow 8/6/2015...where would you go? and what time would you go for the best fishing?
NW Dunkirk today 88 to 112 fow. Boxed four from 6 to 9 lbs on purple pink harnesses, dipsys and lead core. Fish were in middle third of column.
Finally a nice day.... Getting out tomorrow any reports from sturgeon/Catt area?
Catt and go west 80-90 feet 30-55 down
Fishkiller is right on, we had to work for them but had our 2 man limit by 2pm. Also was able to one stop shop with the Fishkiller. He has or can get what you need. We took my buddy's new Lund out for its first Erie walleye trip so he still needs a lot of stuff and good advice. Thanks fishkiller:)
9and10 color...we used harnesses.
We were out yesterday. Finally. We fished all worm harnesses. We boxed 9 walleye. We got them on 7 color, 10 color. But what produced the most was # 1 dipsys 120 back on # 2 1/2 setting. 40 jets didn't do anything. Neither did the 5 color.
Been working like crazy , I probably won't see erie again this yr unless I do a perch outing later in season. It's just one of those yrs work comes first , I am redirecting myself towards the prestaging on lake O which should start real soon . With luck I'll put a smack down on a few kings and get the dust burnt out of the drags on my reels.
went out for a couple hrs yesterday morning...boxed 5...then relaxed and watched the poker run for a bit...probably my last walleye outting for the year
Bailey, please let me know if you hear anything when the prestaging starts on lady O.. I have seen on the lou site that they are getting some darker ones already. I may be making a trip up to the oak soon. Thanks
Will do lineman , we're getting twisted today at the glen , it's race time
Went out of Dunkirk this morning 630-1030, was a little more intense than anticipated. 1'ers quickly cranked up, forced to fish with the waves. Even though going a little fast, we had a pretty great morning. We landed 5 great eyes-2 over 10 pounds, 7 lakers-all but one over 30" (the two that were weighed were 11 and 12 lbs- most released except the swallowing bleeders), a brown trout, and a steelhead. First brown and steelie on the boat ever for us. 80-115 FOW, all the trout on riggers except one laker on a core w/harness, all eyes on 7/8 colors with sticks. She caught the biggest walleye and laker, and found a homemade harness with a ring attached to it (so she got a big sucker too haha). Awesome day.

That was a rough one out there today. Sea sickness took its toll on my cousin and his girlfriend. It was tough trying to get a consistent speed going. We fished from center Rd to Purina and back. You could have body boarded on those breaker waves. Heard a boat went down around Purina. Didn't here any details except sheriff's boat had to cut them loose because it was going down. No casualties. We boxed 5 eyes before we decided to call it on account of wind, all harnesses, 7 and 10 color as well as the dipsys set at 0 with ring 145 back. Green perch, pink/copper and blue silver were our producers.

Looking at the buoy data from buoy 45142...I would have thought is was nice out there....note to self....DO NOT rely on that data!
Sorry for the late post because I was tired yesterday from being bounced around on the lake. My opinion is that the weather buoy was probably correct with the reporting on the wave height at its position. When you take into effect of all the factors, wind strength, wind direction, atmospheric pressure and the position of the buoy you have to judge how it will be at the area where you are going. ??? Just saying.
Anyways to get back to fishing - We went out of Dunkirk yesterday morning at about 6:00 am to 90 to 100 ft of water. We were east of the harbor off Purina about 5 miles out. It was bouncy. Trolled west and picked up 5 walleye. Made the turn and trolled east into the waves :( It was a long bouncy troll. Picked up one more. Then went with the waves for a while and ended up with 8 walleye, 1 laker, 1 rainbow, and several silver bass.
I went out solo today out of the catt from 7am until 12:30. fished in 80-100fow and only caught one 26in walleye on a stick bait in 85fow with a #1 dipsy with the ring, set to zero and out 145ft, it was sunny when I caught it then clouded up shortly after and the lake flattened out.
I marked some fish here and there from the bottom to about 28fow but no takers. I also tried using 10 color leadcore with a stick bait, side planners with harnesses, and a #1 dipsy with the ring and harness.
Buoy only measures the up of a wave from its water level point not the down. You can count on doubling any buoy wave height and I think...them some most of the time. Nice catch CaptJoe!
You too AnchorWheel:)
I think buoy 45142 measures from the bottom to the top to give the total wave height...Last week when it was real windy and that lady drowned...it reported the waves at 5.6ft.
The data for today appears accurate to what I experience while fishing between Dunkirk and the Catt.
Thanks for the advice guys. Went NW out of the Catt and fished 70-77' got 7 total in 4 hours running 4 rods. 1 we let go that was close to 9 lbs. could not get a fish trolling into the waves all fish came off trolling with the waves??? great day
Dan Greenhead is right they only measure from level lake to the top of the crest of the wave. Also one thing to keep in mind is that the data is only transmitted from the buoy to the server once an hour so its not real time all the time the data can be as much as an hour and a half old.
My report is we fished west of center rd. the past 10 days or so and we put 110 walleyes in the boat. We fish no shallower than 85' and no deeper than 95' everything came on 7-10 color, Musky (8oz) torpedo divers on dark colored black with pink blades and any blades with purple in it worked well also. Also Purple Wish, Root Beer, Raspberry Lemonade . and Mystery Machine Long Shallow Bay Rats on the leadcore. Yesterday we had 3 fish over 9lbs and 4 over 8lbs, we did have 1 17" and the rest were 6lbs or bigger.
The clients were pretty happy to say the least. I do have some really good video on the water wolf that I will have up the next few days when I have time to edit it down.
That would be amplitude and therefore incorrect. See the illustration here...http://cdip.ucsd.edu/?sub=index&nav=...ts&xitem=waves
I looked into this weather buoy deal a few years back because along with Port Colborne buoy, one off Roch on Lake O...are just not true to the wave conditions under say 2 meters. These buoys are 3 meter discus style so like a 10' diameter, made of very heavy gauge aluminum and are ballasted. They have all kinds of sensors and one called a Inclinometer that measures the "heave" or vertical rise to the top third of a wave. It takes an average over I think 20 minutes. It's not rocket science to figure out that the size and displacement the buoy along with mooring chain restricts it's ability to accurately measure waves until they become large enough.
We had this discussion last year or the year before.
I use this page and it is usually pretty close to conditions
