Hey guys, I plan on heading out of either Dunkirk or the Catt this weekend now that the weather nice! Any information would be greatly appreciated!?
Thank you,
Josh
Sunset bay shootout this weekend out of the catt.I'm sure most guys will be tight lipped till it's over on Sat
There are fish all over. From buffalo down to Barcelona. My suggestion would be to avoid the tournament guys and go out of sturgeon point. And fish the fence in front of the condos and point abino. See where the fish are at. But top 20ft and down to 35 ft have been taking fish. Sticks and harnesses. Best advice I can give ya without stepping on tournament toes.
Thank you for the information! Sounds like it's better to stay away from the tournament. I'll have to give sp a shot this weekend!
I was on the fence from the condos to Buffalo today. We picked up 4. It got a little choppy out there.
.
ill be out for the afternoon tomorrow.. then headin outta town for a week sunday...hope its still bumpin when i get back...
I'll be out tomorrow afternoon also. Weather looks good.
Picked up 3 out of sbh and two sheep. Fished 42' fow straight out of So. gap at the c buoy, 4 colors and harnesses and dipsies with same:cool:. Bumpy ride 4 till 8:30.
Yeah a little bumpy. Had to find the right speed, the right trim on the trim tabs, the right trim on the motor. Then everything was good. UNTIL the wave pattern changed. Then plop you felt that one right through your spine. Then start all over with the trim tabs, etc. But it is what it is. You have to go a comfortable speed for the conditions and your body. If you have to go 10 miles and can only go 9, 10, 11 mph it just takes you longer.
Well Friday was a little less rough out there wave wise for sure. A lot less wind, and a LOT more bugs. They were in your ears, nose, eyes, hair, arms etc.
Well fishing was OK we ended up with 7 in the box. We lost one off the stringer. Yes, off the stringer, when we were bleeding him. Who knows how or why. ???And the big story of the day - we hooked a good one. Brought it to the boat. Went to net it. The net got stuck on one of the pop up cleats. The fish was touching the boat on the transom in the backwash of the boat itself, just floating there. The harness flew out of the fishes mouth. The net was still stuck. Fish gone. :( just as the net was unstuck. All pop up cleats were then checked and put to their down position. Too late. We were on the line west of Pt. Abino. But as a good captain I take all responsibility for my crew and their actions. ALTHOUGH I did not put the fish on the stringer or was the one with the net. ;)
fish has to be in the boat if it jumps out of the boat it stills count lol
jeff
I've seen the net caper more than I want to admit to. Friday, not one miscue, great.
I went out if Dunkirk today. Managed 3 walleye and about a dozen silver bass. We were in several spots outside the harbor and near the fence. Sometimes we saw a good screen. Then poof their gone. ??? Not as many hits as we thought we should get. ????
Fished out of Buffalo between 4pm and 8:15 marked several only caught 2....but they were nice...A 26in and a 31in (pictured) in 38 to 40 fow just west of Waverly shoal.
Both were caught on the same homemade worm harness made with a #5 Colorado silver streak UV "Purple Boxer"
This is the 3rd fish (not pictured) I caught with this blade since I received it last week I caught a 24in walleye Friday morning in deeper water with it. Attachment 3301
Out today, Monday, 10 until 2pm. Got two, lost one, and two sheep.3 and 4 color lead with worm harnesses around c buoy 40 fow.
I have yet to loose a fish since using these Gamakatsu #6 Round Bend Bronze Treble Hooks along with a Gamakatsu #2 red Octopus hook... setup like Capt. Ross Robertson does them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmVU06nSHf8 and techniques Ross showed me like...don't pump the rod, keep the tip high, do not go side to side with the pole and reel in slow and steady...the fish is already hooked you just need to reel it in and net it!
Trolled the fence yesterday afternoon from Sturgeon to Buffalo, 2 hits, two eyes. one on 4 colors with harness, one on downrigger 52ft down in 60ft water with harness. Marking fish but they seem to be scattered throughout the water column and tight lipped. Anybody else doing anything? Reports from Dunkirk/Barcelona?
Barcelona did well. Catt was the same as your post, Scattered fish.
Went out of the catt 1/2 day Sunday, got 9 walleye and a dozen silvers. All scattered through the column from 5 to 10 colors, 70-85 fow, got a nice 30.5" on a rigger down deep, that was a good fighter!
Went out Solo out of Buffalo today at 9am until 3:30...trolled the same areas as I did Sunday, Marked a lot of Walleye they were all over....I mean a lot....I fished with 8 lines and threw almost everything I had, different spinners, stick baits, speeds, depths, dipseys, side planers, stern planers, Kishel's, and only caught 3 sheepshead, large, extra large and Holy **** they get that big size! (25in)
Went out solo...fished with 8 lines?
That would have interesting if they were biting:)
This guy has fished Lake Erie for 60 years. Says this is the biggest Shithead he has seen. Took half an hour to get to the boat.
The NY record is over 29 pounds, 33 inches, from Lake Ontario last year.
World record: 54lbs 8oz Nickajack Lake, TN April 20, 1972

The record set last year was from Irondequoit Bay...... There were a couple of guys targeting them and catching some real hogs..... They knew that they had a shot at setting the record, and kept fishing for them until they broke it..... Pretty cool if you're into sheep!
We managed 7 today. Between SP and Pt. Albino. It was hot, hot , hot.
I heard he had 4 cheater lines off his riggers going also!
The record in NY for Fresh water Drum AKA: Sheepshead is 26lb 9oz caught in lake Ontario (Irondequoit Bay) 6/14/14

I could only operate one at a time...the rule says you can operate 3...lol!
I have my imaginary fishing partner help me with the rods:)
Yesterday my son and I went out of sbh from 2 till 7, 2 shitheads, a gobie, and a sun burn. This was the first trip getting skunked on walleye. The worst of it is I'm having rotator cuff surgery tomorrow, So I'll be like a one armed paper hanger for a while, need to practice doing things left handed.
Check this video out I filmed with the water wolf camera yesterday (7-29-15) we were running the camera on a 7 color running an Eye Fly Harness.
