March weather forecast changed from back in mid-February. Yep, well above seasonal temperatures combined with hign winds has broken up most of the "anchored' ice. However, now it's even more dangerous out on the Lake. Still a LOT of ice out there, and around the shoreline and Islands. "Open" water areas can become ice clogged quickly, due to winds and current. Lone pieces of ice can be anywhere. Water temperature is still 35-36 degrees. Is it really worth it to go out, when if you have trouble or end up in the water, rescue is likely 30-40 minutes at the quickest, more likely well over an hour? Survival in that water is meaurured in minutes.
