we fished last week,Monday and Saturday bugs were bad [no breeze] found some bug suits at Walmart and they made a big difference,didn't make fish bite.

I have a bug baffler suit that I take to Canada. They work great if the black flies and mesquitos are throttling you.

Mix equal parts of dawn, vinegar and water... this works great on all bugs, especially biting flys...
