I use several different approaches to perch fishing to find out what they are interested in at that time. 1. On the bottom with a foot or so of slack and gently lift the rod every few seconds and feel for added Wt. 2. Let the line down to make contact with bottom and maintain a tight line then lift up gently and feel for added Wt. or the peck peck of a perch bite. 3. Let it down to bottom and let it lay for a second then jig it up and down a couple of times then let it lay motionless on bottom again and then start over.
The most important thing if using braid is to not over set the hook. Just a flick of the wrist will do the job, keep a tight line all the way into the boat. Do not admire a large perch with the fish hanging on the outside of the boat. Swing it over the edge so if it comes off it will land in the boat and not back in the water. This is especially true on those light biters.Last edited by wakina; 08-12-2014 at 10:14 PM.
