Both perch and walleye like to hit the spreader. My favorite is perch my wife likes walleye. I never use any bling on the spreader.
Let me know how it works for you, just make sure you have some rope on that pole~!

SE of G can today. Had two hours in to it, late start fished from 10 am to noon.
6 nice yellow perch and 10 sheep head~! Using golden shiners for bait. Very light bite and the lake was really nice today.
Spreaders on the bottom (20 fow) and no bling.
Back at it soon. This year is not like last year (for perch), however, it should pick up as the season progresses.
I did see some green bloom in the water, but it was not bad.

Sure sign of perch season! Glad to see Waterdog is back on the advance reconnaissance team and reporting. Keep em coming. You are right. Very slow start. I remember catching them a few years ago in July. As good as the perch population is supposed to be in the west basin, I sure do wonder where they are all hiding. Hope this hide and seek is not a bad omen. Trolled east of Kelley's yesterday and picked up some spiny water fleas on the lines. That doesn't help...
fished south of green island and G can and, no yellow perch for the dog!
I got a tip at the gas dock today, and will see it that works on Sunday.
Anyway, every dog has his day. (or weeks)
Keep the lines tight and be safe,

Will be fishing for the walleye and getting jiggy~!
In times past, April has been good for a limit of perch at H Can!
I will post both results here.
Back soon weather permitting.

Fished H can and Camp Perry area, no bites, several head boats were fishing the same area and then they moved west.
Went to G can , dropped the anchor, and no bites. (checking for yellow perch)
G can area had several boats trolling.
I was using a spreader with minnows, and tipped the green hair jigs with minnow.
When jigging I had the spreader drifting just above the bottom, this has produced walleye in the past.
I marked fish in the Portage River, but no marks once I was in the lake.
First run and getting my sea legs back.
Back at it soon.

You said head boats were out fishing?I would think since the Ohio charter assoc has ordered no charter fishing, that would include the head boats.Head boats can put alot more people dangerously close together for hours.Which head boats are still operating?
None of the Port Clinton head boats have left the docks that I seen. There are net boats out.
Thanks for clarifying that the head boats only had captain and small crew.I would consider that safer than letting general public join you.Hey island troller, saw ur post on OGF about that huge muskie you caught today, that trashed your net and got away.Wow,that must have been exciting.Have heard of guys landing 30" muskie but you said yours was about 50".To bad you didn't land it and get picture.
Island trolled posted on Ohio game and fish website that he had a 50" muskie to the net when he lost it yesterday.

got the 6 walleye today (in about 2.5 hours) , all between 17 and 19 inches, lost one at the boat and had 6 hook ups and then lost it, those hard mouths are tuff for that little stinger hook.
Most hook ups were due to the stinger, however there were two and got the big hook.
Toussaint Reef , many boats , many nets a very nice day for fishing. Many boats were to the west in a cluster, and more to the north.
Using a green jig, stinger and tipped with a shiner , had the perch spreader out however no takers, sometimes that will pull a walleye and yellow perch.

Good work Waterdog. I bet it was nice out there today!
Yes that was me. I have caught one in the 30s and seen other caught in the western basin. But never seen one that big. It was rough and I was solo. Just could not get him on the boat. Yes really wanted a picture. He was sitting on the edge of Clinton Reef eating those tasty walleyes. Today was a beautiful day out there Waterdog, Nice Catch.
OK Water Dog you were right as I was wrong. I seen 2 head boats going out today with obviously a couple crew members and no customers. I earlier stated was probably net boats.
Only 5 walleyes for the Water Dog today, Toussaint Reef again, I spent 2 hours trying to get the last one but a no go~!
Many boats, I have never seen so many boats at one time and all over.
I did catch this fish ohio cat today, I thought I had a hog walleye.
The spreader , did not produce again, may try for some yellow perch in the near future.

Worked the same area Saturday and Sunday. 2 man limit by 9:30 Saturday. Sunday was a struggle. Caught 2 fairly quick in the morning then it went dead. Picked a couple more then finished with 5 quick ones around 1:30. Beautiful day to be patient. We did catch a few jumbo sheep and a nice small mouth. JD green caught most.
One sheep head today!
Fished NW of Lakefront, east, west and south of "H" can.
Wind was moving the dog .8 to 1.2 mph.
Water was colder than the last time I was out by about 2 degrees.
Using night crawlers and a gold erie dearie and a spreader tipped with night crawlers.
Will watch the wind and try again soon.
~Water Dog

Spreader tipped with golden shiners did not produce.
G can area, dropped the anchor to see if I could catch any perch, no bites.

Two walleye "Clinton Reef" area, one on a gold erie dearie tipped with a night crawler and the other on the spreader using golden shiners.
Foggy today, and when the wind changed from the North it got real foggy again, I would of had big time problems getting back to the Portage River without my gps. The white perch were beating up my night crawlers and I hooked 3 of them on the erie dearie. No sheep head today. And there were two head boats working the area today.
