Lorain 10/17
I haven't had a chance to be on the lake since late July. We headed to Lorain yesterday 10/17 with high hopes of catching. Arrived and on the water around 8:00. Started at the north end of the dump and trolled north with a mostly spoons, some big, some small. Around noon or so the winds really kicked up the water out where were in 55' so we headed back towards the dump to try to get in closer and out of some of the wave action. That move cost us some time working our way back in. At that point we only had 2 fish in the boat. Soooo we ended up trolling from the middle of the dump working north again catching a few here and there. The winds laid down again by late afternoon. Fished till 5:00 and ended up with 11 fish. Ended up catching more on crawler harnesses then spoons. Overall a fairly slow day.

Re: Lorain 10/17
Thanks for the report Tater. You did better than the two of us. We actually started the day at Huron, but by 10:30 and no action we headed to Lorain. Got set up a little before noon and fished until 3:45. Only 2 nice size eaters got in the boat. Lost one and caught a couple white bass and an 8 lb. drum. We were just using cranks, fishing from the south to the north end of the dump, 48 to 52 fow. The 2 keepers were fairly deep, probably 32 to 36 feet down. Speed was 1.8 to 2.1 SOG. BTW, yes there are midges in October. They were worse at the dock than out on the water, but I had not experienced that before this late in the year. Good luck to everyone in the brawl!

Re: Lorain 10/17
We made the 30 mile run from Catawba on Friday to off Lorain also.Forcast the night before called for 8 mph out south. When woke up had changed to 12mph.The bouy had wind at 15-17 mph out south with 4 ftrs while we were actually fishing. So we had a slow ride out and worse coming home.Yep, a 2hr run back to port.We fished from 9-11 near the line.Initially the bite was a fire drill.Took us a while till got our 4 dipsey rods in.Was too rough to attempt boards.Started downwind and slowest we could go was 2.6 mph.Was in 55-58 fow and was catching on silver and gold J9 at 95 on a 3 setting and a 80 on the 1 setting. We ran out of marks after a while and turned to head into the waves.Eventually got back into the fish and finished up with our 12 that weighed 29 lbs.No large fish. All good eaters.Might be our last fish this year.Boat coming out soon.
