My casting harnesses are about 18" with a #4 or #3 Colorado gold blade, 5 beads down to a #4 hook.

Bottom bouncers out the back drift side (IMO) catch the most fish. All I do for those is the same set up as mentioned above, but tie a small treble hook stinger in addition to the #4 hook. 3 or 4 oz banana weight, drop to the bottom, 3-4 cranks up depending on the marks.

I tie mine for casting about 2 feet long. I tie the loop long enough that you can slip it through a 3/4 or 1 ounce egg sinker and then connect to a swivel. This keeps it captured during casting and retrieving. I also tie a small bead inside the loop to protect the knot.

I go to 5 feet for trolling but I use snap weights at 50 feet back so the length likely doesn't matter.

I also tie on stinger treble hooks like Nick does. I use #2 main hooks and #6 trebles. I like the bigger hooks for these bigger fish. I seem to lose way less while fighting them, especially in surging waves.

I tie my casting harness with 20# seaguar fluorocarbon at 2 ft and two #2 gamagatsu hooks and quick change cleves usually a #4 gold Colorado blade.
My trolling harness is same line at 6.5 ft long with a #1 gamagatsu hooks in front and a treble in the rear.We have usually been using double willows on the harnesses.Purple and pink blades.

I tie casting harnesses at 12-15” long. I feel less tangles. Dragging / bottom bouncing harness 24-30” long. I use quick change Clevis on all casing ones usually 4-5 beads with #1 or 2 bait saver hooks only 1 hook. Dragging harness I use similar setup but use the looped clevis & use 2 hooks with only the front one a bait saver. I don’t even hook worm on the back hook
