We went to Lorain for the first trip of the year on Wednesday. Tried to put in at Hot Waters, Holy Cow!!! If I didn't know better it looks like that boat launch is abandoned. Many, many trees and logs and trash are in all of the launch lanes ... left over from winter I guess. One would think after spending all that money on that beautiful parking area that they would have the launches functional by now, good grief it's April!
At any rate, we put in at the Black River public launch, not the biggest lanes, but usable.
We went 4 miles west of the lighthouse to 43' of water and the fishfinder was lit up from 20' to 35'. Pulled Bandits, Rapala Goldminer30's, Reapers, I even put a dipsey on with a spoon and then later a Junior Thunderstick. The 2 of us managed to scratch 4 fish in 7 hours. The water was like chocolate milk, but held a ton of fish. Went out to somewhat cleaner water, 50 to 55' but it held no fish. They were all in the dirty water but did not want to chew.
Hopefully, this goofy weather straightens out and things clean up. When it does, it should be epic.
