Perch
Perch bite was on fire today...two of us were east of A can in about 26' of water and they were hungry. Some dummies a few sheep's and white bass. Perch were average big in size ! Most were over 9" and one at almost 13" ! Had our limit in a little over two hours. 2' seas to start and bite was hot right at the start, bite slowed as did average size as the wind began to die down as noon approached. Not much time left to fill those freezer shelves !!

Re: Perch
Got out today looking for Perch before season's end. Fished around the reef area of camp perry. Bite started sow, very slow for first couple hours moving four times. Finally ended up by Pickeral reef and got into a group if really nice Perch !! Biggest was just shy of 15" by a hair ! 6 others were over 12", and another 6 around the 11" mark. Only 6 under 9". Best quality and size we have saw in years ! Lots if boats taking advantage of a nice weekend to end the season. Shiners were small with some chubs mixed in but we ended with 36 awesome size perch for three of us.

Re: Perch
Thanks for taking time to share your great day on the lake. How many more weeks do you think the perch will be active

Re: Perch
I usually get some perch when I drop a line, but I'm not sure I've ever seen them on my Helix. If anyone has a screen shot of what that looks like, and what your settings are, I'd find that hugely helpful.

Re: Perch
I have a Lawrance, HDI unit from 2013. Not sure what the settings are but it does show small arches all along the bottom when n a Scholl is present. Mine is set for color changes by the previous owner. Small fish are black specs bigger fish show arches and big fish get red in color. Easy to see bigger fish mixed in with small fish from the marks and colors. How to create this....I have no idea, owned this unit for 3 years and still learning, then again, computers and I don't get along well !

Re: Perch
Perch will hang around as long as the wind and weather are good. As the water cools down nearer 50 degrees they typically move shallower. Many are filled with eggs and wilk have a second spawn here when they nove in. Having an outboard where no real winter prep is needed, I go out when the weather permits. In past years I have fished right up to Christmas ! But typically hang it up by Thanjsgiving.

Well, I have a 18' Targa Tracker so I will be out a couple times, weather and wind permitting, I am getting an enclosure installed and looking forward to trying it out. My wife and I love going to Lake Erie. Again thanks for the post

Re: Perch
Real sad I didn't get to this way back in the late spring and summer. I finally got my Garmin Livescope mobile unit rig finished (finished being for the rest of this season). I also have a rig for it to be able to record the screen without background glare. If I get a chance these last days of October before I pull the boat, I will try to get out and get some livescope video of perch / perch schools. Would be great to get out with someone so they can fish and I can concentrate on the sonar. We'll see.

Re: Perch
When I first got my Lawrence unit, I spent many days on the water with a downloaded manual trying to figure out how to use it. Still don't know or use all of its features, but it helps me put fish in my freezer and that is what is important to me. Lost many good fishing days in the first season just figuring out the unit !!
Appreciate the report. Can't wait...
