Default Where to go in the wind

I'm fishing Erie this week 6-3 thru 6-7. It looks like the last 3 days are high winds and I'm only in an 18 ft Lund. Is there a good place to fish during high wind days?

Put in at Mazurik and fish east side of bass islands and east of kellys

Agree with 23rd Century. With mostly west winds this week, the lee or east side of an island will have smaller waves. East side kellies could be holding fish now. But from past experience, hiding from big waves don't often produce a good catch.

Wednesday wind forecast out of the south, mostly 11-15mph, so ok. Thursday and Friday westerly 18-25. First, try right out in front of the shore in the South Passage. Lots of walleye caught in the South Passage last few weeks, and at times from Mouse Island east about a mile, 1 1/2 miles off shore. If not there, you'll need to get to the east side of the Bass Islands. Getting across the South Passage will ge fun. Lots of area from Starve Island to North Bass. I'd try from Starve going N until you find some active fish. Probably off Middle Bass Island Lucky's Point (eatern tip of Middle Bass) could be good. Kelleys will be a rough ride getting to the east side, and you don't have as much area to fish there in the Lee. Good fishing!

You also have the option of trailering to the West end of the Lake and launching from the north side of Toledo. Or get a Michigan License and that gives you all the way to the Detroit River Mouth.

I hope you didn't go out today. Small craft advisory until tomorrow. Wind gusts 35 to 40mph coming soon. The wind has been increasing since I got up at 3 this morning. She's white capping now. Stay off the lake in your 18 footer.
