Shad profile baits
Good afternoon fellow lake lovers. It kinda stinks knowing I won't be getting back out until spring. Wondered if any of you would offer your opinions on shad baits like flicker shads or shad raps? Everything I use and most everyone on this site currently references minnow style baits. I don't need any more bandits so will look to try something different for fun.
Many moons ago, hot n tots and wiggle warts got it done on Erie here in the Eastern Basin. Thank you in advance to whoever would like to chime in. Thanks also for a great year of reports. They are very enjoyable to read along with being very helpful.
And, Merry Christmas soon to you all.

Re: Shad profile baits
Cool, thank you. I have some shad raps on order. Will also look at these per your recommendation.
I catch enough usually on bandits and bombers but...... watching a lot of walleye shows on TV they claim hat sometimes the fish may react better to a shad body vs. minnow body bait. They also brag up balsa which is what the Rapala Shad Raps are. Wondered if there is tuth to that or they're just trying to sell more lures. Lol
Thanks again

Re: Shad profile baits
We sometimes run flicker shad lures on our dipseys. The best color being a white or silver color. We will also use a Rapala J7 too. They are both jointed and have good action.

Re: Shad profile baits
Hot n tots still kill them out there. There's been many days small shad profiles smash them over big stick baits. Especially in shallow waters. Had a big summer blow from the north into port clinton one week. It moved bait and walleye from way off shore to 12 foot of water in scattered grass. #7 flicker shads back 86 foot wide on boards smashed them probably better than I've seen.

Hey that is cool. Thank you for the reassurance that's it's worth adding something new to the tackle box. Looking forward to trying both and seeing how it goes. Will add another lure to the precision trolling app. 😂

Re: Shad profile baits
I haven't been on Erie much yet so not sure about the big lake, but we use them all the time on the freshwater lakes back here in Indiana. The jointed flicker shads are one of our go to baits! Finally got my old house sold, hoping to get out on Erie more this year.
