Wednesday 8-9-2023 G can 30 more yellow perch
A little over 2 hours today, some sorting and many white perch, no farm animals that is a first!
SE of G can 22 fow, golden shiner mix, spreaders no bling.
This has been the best yellow perch season that I can remember. Not sure how long it will last. DNR paid me a visit at the docks to confirm my 30 ~! He told me that things were slow over in Lucas county.
Boats to the west off me and some to the north.
back soon,

I can't never remember it being this good either. Curious how you freeze your perch. I put two servings in a ziplock sandwich bag and top it off with water covering the fish but it takes up a lot of room doing that. Do you vacuum seal.

Some swear by vacuum seal, I have done both over the years and have found vacuum seal is only good for 2-4 months in the freezer. Still use quality " freezer bags" cover the fillets in water, squeeze all the air out, then double bag in case of a leak. Had fillets in this for well over a year and no freezer burn and tastes just like they are fresh !! Will never go back to a vacuum sealer for my fish fillets.
Matter of fact, mine is still sitting in the original box with boxes of extra bags, hasn't been used in over 5 years. Nothing like freezing in water for perch and walleye !!

I'm the opposite. We vacuum seal everything. Walleye keep well over a year. We seal corn, beans, deer, chicken, and turkeys (we raise our own), etc. also.
I think the secret is you have to get a quality sealer. Ours double seals.
I hope this helps.Mike

I use stand up quart size zip lock bags, put about 1.5 pounds per bag and fill to top with water. I have an upright freezer and freeze the bags standing up so they are stackable once frozen. I have never had any freezer burn using this process.
My catches have given a little over 3 pounds of fillets per 30 yellow perch.
I was in Bassett's Market getting some fresh sea food and noticed some fresh yellow perch @ $33. per pound! The grouper was $35 per pound! Yellow Gold!

I too stand the bags up. I put about 3 bags in a plastic container so that if it was to open waiting to freeze it will catch the water it also keeps the bags tall water pushed up over the fish because the bags are squeezed side by side. Thanks for the replies.

G can is the line of cans along the East side of the Camp Perry Firing range.
I circled G can on here.
