Decided to go ahead and try Sunday even though wind was to be 15-20 mph most of the day. Left out of east harbor and went towards Ballast Island hoping it would be a little less rough.
Set up east of Ballast and ran with the waves on a line towards Middle Island. Used Bandits 40-60 back and Mooneye minnows on tru-trips 35-45 back. Ran the same line back and forth several times. We picked fish both ways with speed around 2.0 when possible.
It stayed bumpy all day and had difficulty keeping lines on the big board.
Chromes and natural colors both worked well. We ended with 15 in the box with one hawg lost at the boat. Too much looking and not enough reeling.
We also picked up a bonus 4 lb smallmouth while trolling. All walleye were over 22” and biggest was 26. Took all day but had a nice looking cooler.
The Mooneye minnow (Yaleye Lures)is a new lure we have starting using this season. So far they have caught as well as a deep bandit. They are a shallow diver used with tru-trips or dipseys.
