Like many of you - have been aching to get out and do some fishing out in the boat. So this AM go and launch the 14 footer at Dunkirk. Despite the launch approaches to the water being littered with a carpet of dead shad and waterfowl did not have too many problems until after launching the boat. While pulling out of the launch with the truck, the tires started to spin. Glad that I did not decide to use the big boat.

Well retrieving the boat was a whole different issue. Due to the spinning tires with an empty 14 foot trailer, decided to place the truck in 4 wheel drive. Then when I back trailer down to where I can retrieve trailer and place truck in Park, the truck continues to slide backwards on the combination of dead carcasses and slime. My best guess is that it slid back some two feet. Sliding finally stops and I load boat on trailer and start pulling out of launch in 4 wheel with the transmission set at the 2 setting. Half- way up, the tires start spinning again and I come to a stop. Tried easing it out from a stop and the tires continued to spin. After visions of having to get a tow truck to pull me out, I dropped it in Drive and was able to pull it out.

Now I have a smelly project of cleaning the boat off. and then the on the truck will have to clean tires and wheel wells.

My advice - If your thinking about exercising your boat out of Dunkirk, You might want to check to see if the conditions at the boat launch has improved first.
