right after i dip them i add salt to the water and almost brine them...i just roll them on pp towles and get them as dry as possible...throw fifty or so in a pan full of salt...flip them around bag n freeze...they stay flexable and super vibrant...make sure u label ur bags with name quanity and how there perserved...theyll check ya for it out there fyi

Never freeze them, they will get soft and fall of the hook too easy. When the fishing has been good anything works. I've actually done experiments and I have found that in order of preference, live emeralds are the best. Usually salted emeralds worked better than other live minnows, but not always seemed like it depended on the day. Sometimes half a salted minnow worked better than a whole one. And sometimes one hook with a salty, and one with a live minnow worked best. The salted minnows can come off the hook easier than a live one, you set the hook and miss you will have to rebait. Sometimes I think that works as chum and brings fish too you. At least that's what I tell myself.
I'm sure you will find a variety of ways to do this, I wanted something quick and easy and it seems to work fine.
Redpearl, If I am understanding , you just put the minnows & salt in the bucket with no water & stir them up so salt covers all the minnows, correct? I'll try this. Thanks!

I fished yesterday out of sturgeon point. We did pretty good we used live emralds 56 ft water just west. A buddy used salted emeralds and did pretty well also. There wereaabout 15 boats out there yesterday.

Fished SP today , parking lot was full, the woman taking money said over 80 boats launched before 10 am. We kept 42 jumbos 12-14" , 56 fow. did anyone see the boat, trailer & truck in the water at the launch? Bad day of fishing for someone!
All those trucks, trailers, & boats, now I remember why retired people don't fish on weekends!
Does anyone know if the docks are in at the Hanover launch, or the state launch on the Catt?????
No, it turned in to the Nitemare on the Catt part 2.(lineman49 you'll love this one) Checked both state launches last fri. No docks. I ended up launching at hidden harbor solo at 6:00am. No wadders. I had to tie my dock rope to a rope that was tied to a pole. Needless to say the knot came apart as I was pulling the trailer up the ramp. I looked in the rear view, seen the boat floating away and almost s***. I jumped out of the truck threw my wallet and phone on the grass and dove in to grab the rope. Man that water is still cold! I had two hooded sweatshirts and a pair of sweatpants on. Soaked! I was able to pull the boat in to shore. The hiddon harbor marina looked like a laundry mat with all my clothes hanging up! Luckily I had a pair of bibs and a couple of shirts in the truck.I did make it out. Tried all over the place. No luck. I should have listoned to fishkiller and went to S.P. Oh yeah dead battery on the truck to polish the day off! Nightmare on the Catt part 1 was from my post after the first trip out early May 2015!Quote:

We launched at Sturgeon this morning and it was a bust. We moved west and fished just east of Evangola 56 ft of water. We tanked hard, we picked up only 12, a bunch of guys did pretty well with some getting their limit. We just couldn't get on them today the schools were roaming all morning. Good luck all.
Fished yesterday in the afternoon from 3-7 pm, boxed about 80, not as many big females as last Sundays catch but caught some nice male's this time. We keep making small moves with the I-Pilot, we would catch a bunch then they quit on us, make a move and find another small school, that was the ticket.. Evangola.

Watching other boats around me it would be fast and furious then nothing. I think the schools are breaking up and spreading out.
If you weren't right on top of a school you weren't catching fish.
X2 that's why the boats with I-pilot on average are out fishing anchor & rope boats, easy to make the small moves. only so many times you want pull anchor. :(Quote:
