goin for perch tomorrow, out of Dunkirk. Any reports?
We went out this AM at 6.Waves were forecasted to be less than 1-2 earlier in week. It was revised this morning as we went out I think. We came out of the SBH with a few other boats and it was pretty rough. The bigger boats headed straigh out of the Gap towards Canada. We fished unti 2 pm and caught nothing but bass. NO eyes! It was pretty hard to track a straight line. Lost a ton of stuff on the bottom off the windmills and did have one nice fish on but lost it. Maybe should have stuck to the original plan and hit SP for Perch. Hopefully it will calm down for you guys on the weekend. On the way out of the parking lot, stopped and saw one guy ( think he was a Charter guy) and we was cleaning some nice eyes but he had like a 21 ft boat so he was most likely out of our site during the day.Good Luck guys.
That was us we had a box full.....awesome day today and my on partners boat they boxed out also. Go west young man....lol it it started to lay down nicely around 10:00.
Ended up with 7 for 11 today, 7 keepers ,2 dinks & lost/2 at the boat/net.
We fished the Basseye tourny today and we were only allowed to use a total of 3 rods. So in 4 hrs of fishing with 3 rods and 20+mph westerlys with 3-4 footers we ended up eith 10 walleyes, our biggest was just over 9 lbs at 29.5". Oh ya and 2 bass...lol Its not lookin too good for tomorrow 15-25 mph out of the west with 3-5+ footers. im sleepin in tomorrow.
Fishkiller lies LOL nice catch today hope wind slows for sun
Man we cant catch a break now sunday isnt looking too good either here is a copy from the NWS website zone point Marine forcast for between Sturgeon Pt. and Buffalo: Sunday: W wind 5 to 8 kt becoming WSW 11 to 16 kt in the morning. Mostly sunny. Waves 1 ft or less building to 2-3 ft.
I take full responsibility for this weather. It must be me. After working 13 days straight and great anticipation of getting out this happens. We did win the game last night 12-2. At least that doesn't get called on account of wind.
capt joe i think it is your fault lol congrats on the win the wind must of kept the balls in the yard lol milt
Thanks capt, maybe you should help us out and work tomorrow LOL
i could not post here for some reason "down rigger" questions.
thanks
Here is a great article from the Dunkirk Observer about the Southtowns Walleye Tourny.

Congrats Jim. You got your name in the Observer. By the way did yiu win any money in the tourney? I was hoping that someone from this website would win it. BAILEY - i figured you would be up there.
Hay i made it out today. I slept in & when i got up at7:30 I tooka look at the lake and it was flat. My first thought was that i told Bailey a few hours earlier that it was blowing hard at 9:30 the night before. Made a few phone calls. Met my crew at Sturgeon Pt. Went to the condos. Picked up on right away. I thought maybe a good day. The winds picked up. It got rough. Didn't pick up anything else. Headed west. Couldn't lower my trolling motor. Called it quits. Had a slow bumpy ride back to the point. Put the boat back on trailer and found a wire connection pulled apart. At least it wasn't a cooked elect. motor.
Headed out on the 4th in morning if all goes well sounds like thunder showers possible ill be going out of sbh give me shout on 68
Headed out of SP with my bro-inlaw (Pete/NY) on monday and went west to 70fow. Marked "alot" of big fish but no takers. Then went east to 40-50 fow near 18 mile with very few marks and no takers.(except silver bass & some trophy sheephead) Moved back west in 58fow off condos on this side of the fence and started marking fish and catching. Got our limit ranging from 9lbs. to 3lbs. Bigger fish seemed to be deep and smaller were suspended and in the top 30ft. All on harness's with colors from black/purple, silver watermellon, copper mellon, and perch pattern. Riggers and dipseys were the tools of the day. Was another boat there running boards and we seen their net out alot also. Seen alot of boats fishin perch west of SP in 70fow too, so they must still be there if anyone is interested. Going to try and squeeze a few hours in this afternoon if life co-operates. Waiting on report from a friend @ Barcelona so I will post if any of those western eye's are there yet. Good Fish'n Everyone!!!!
Ty, nice going on your fish catch. I was near the condos & only got 2 on Mon. I fished inside the so. gap this Am caugth 20 ended up with 4 keepers & a 14" perch chased by a 3+ ft. muskie! Had fun.
Lineman....as long as your having fun thats what matters. I've always said that getting the fish is just a bonus as long as your enjoying the rest of the adventure, but a good day of catching sure doe's sweet'n the pot. What are you getting them on @ the gap? Are you running the wall, drifting etc. I'm always looking for some water to fish when the lake is to rough. Once the boat is in the water you have to get the lines wet somewhere lol. I might run out tonight for a few hours if my friend gets out of work on time. Keep ya posted if i do.
Running the wall to the opening into the sleel plt. or from the lite house across to the harbor towards the so. end marina, then north to just pass the pier/ grain silos. useing green or chartuse. harnesses off a 3 way with 2oz. lead. 24 -31 fow, nice on windy days !
Thanks for the info Lineman....I know all the landmarks you stated. We use to launch at so. end marina for years @ the grain mills and pier. Is there still a launch there or is that all closed up now? It was 10 yrs. since I put a boat in the water there. It was'nt a pretty ramp but no crowds. Not hitting the water tonight but hoping for the 4th. Thanks again!!!!!
I bet that perch was jumpin in ur boat lol. Muskies and big pike always get the blood pumping when they appear out of nowhere bostside.
I unfortunately caught a nasty "rockfish" in the river on Sunday, so I'm without a prop til my new one comes in or my buddy gets around to fixing mine. Whichever comes first. Ha ha.
Have to ask you....camaro or chevelle?
It was for the camaro copo. Which I never owned. Where I used to work back in the day had a 1969 unrestored trans am convertible. As well as a couple copo camaros. The guy does nothing but deal in gm muscle and parts. I sold my type Lt camaro a couple yrs ago. When I can afford to I think I'm gonna build a 30s-50s pro street truck next. Everyone has a camaro, Chevelle, and nova now a days. The screen name is my email address from way back in the day.
Copo, I got a rockfish one 4th. of July. It cost me $2,100 to get repaired. Was not the best tasteing fish I ever had, left a bad taste !! I always wanted to get a older truck also, missed out on a "47 Ford" pickup a yr. ago. Had a" 55 Chevy" 2 dr. hardtop in the late 60's . Now I am in the 60's, life goes on.
My friend has a 39 ford street/strip pickup he said he might sell me but I don't have the funds right now.
Yeah the dinged up prop sucks. I know the river pretty good and what my boat drafts. There's a long shallow point that comes out in the west river after beaver island marina. I was way out from shore, just clicked into gear. I was explaining how tubing works while we were getting it ready. My cousin goes woah. Weeds we're shallow all of a sudden, I looked at where we were and and said we are fine then click click click! I forgot the hydro plant was drawing water. So it was a couple ft shallower than it should have been.
But it happens. At least I didnt do that amount of damage that you did lineman. Sandy at rocky bottom told me to go with a different size and pitch prop anyways, said it would perform all around better. So my buddies fixing my prop so I'll have a spare now at least.
HAPPY 4TH TO EVERYONE and good luck fishing.
I was on the west river when I hit mine, sm. world, but big rocks!! I did outdrive , internal water jacket damage , broke knuckles off old style OMC. drive, Not a pretty pic! Was going 3/4 speed at the time, thought the back of boat was blown off.
