What does the 1.5 oz of lead have to do with catching trash fish? I use something like a crappie rig that I make and every sheepshead, white perch, and goby are caught on the bottom. The only thing I catch on the way down to the bottom is white bass.

The faster your rig blasts through the trash fish that are higher in the water column, the less trash fish you will catch. Most of the better sized perch are caught slack lining on the bottom. If there aren't many trash fish where you are fishing at, you won't notice. But try fishing where there are 10' of trash on top of the perch and you'll notice a difference getting it to bottom faster.
