Reef runner colors
I am just starting trolling. I will be up on June 20th weekend. I have already spent a fortune on stuff, but wanted to buy some reef runners. What are your favorite colors that you wouldnt do without? I was thinking about ordering about 12.
Thanks
Rick

green flash, bare naked, cranberry crusher. I usually fish cranks early and late in the year. spoons and crawler harnesses most of the time.

I wouldn't buy any for that time of year. Your money will be better invested in Michigan Stingers or crawler harnesses.

Barbie and green flash have been our best colors. We have been putting out the smaller deep diving little rippers on boards and the really small reef runner 100 s off of dipsys and they have outperformed spoons this year for us.

Spoons
Ditto on the spoons or harnesses for Summer fishing and cranks for Fall.
But when you do buy some get some of the bare naked series.

Sound advise indeed!
You will be arriving during or just after the peak of the mayfly hatch and that can have a major influence on presentations and bait selection.
I would add that maybe you should wait to purchase those spoons. That is if you change your mind about buying the crank baits. By wait I mean you should buy your spoons locally once you arrive at the lake.
Reason being is that what is the hot colors right now and catching fish can be dead colors by June 20. The difference in cost is minimal between online and purchasing local and you would be purchasing what is currently catching fish when you arrive and not what is catching fish now, which most likely will change somewhat by then.
I also would not limit myself to just the Mich. Stinger Scorpion spoons but would look at all of the spoons that are available wherever you decide to buy. Such as Wolverine Jr. Streaks, Gale force, and any of the several other spoon manufactures that are available locally. Ask the bait store owner/clerk what the hot colors are and they would probably be more than happy to show you the best in all of their inventory. Of course this is only a suggestion and the finale decision of what to buy and where rest entirely with you.Last edited by wakina; 06-03-2014 at 06:52 PM.

Thanks for everyone's input. I am planning on buying some tackle locally. I have a ton of spoons but will still buy the hot stuff when I get there. Really just trying to get the colors now that you guys feel like should always be in your box. I have very few reef runners or rapalas. I probably have about 20 different harnesses and will add a few of the local blades also.
Thanks again
