humminbird locators
I am thinking about getting a hummingbird locator. I was wanting to know if the side imaging is worth it overall and get some opinions. Thinking about the 898c HD SI. Is the screen size important? Would I be better off getting a 958 c DI or an 1158c DI and giving up the side imaging. Any thoughts on these locators and opinions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Dan

Down and side imaging
I have a Hummin bird 798 ci di . It does show the structure very well. Makes a real nice picture. My problem is ,what to do with that information. I have not taken the time to stop and try to fish the structure.I have had some minor issues with the fish finder but now have those taken care of. I am going to sell my unit. If you would be interested I would make you a great deal on it!

I was wondering mainly if the side imaging is that useful or if I'd be better getting a locator without side imaging and going with a larger screen?
Thanks, Dan

If you're talking about use specifically for lake Erie walleye, in my opinion side scan and down scan will not give you any advantage for locating or catching fish. I would put the money into a larger screen.

In my opinion, buy as big as your budget will allow. I think 7" is a minimum...bigger is better lol. I'd buy a an HDS 12 if I could afford it lol

Where Side imaging really shines is when you are fishing the reefs or humps in Maumee bay in the spring. You can actually see the fish echos right over a hump out to the side. In deep water it is difficult to tell if there are fish, let's say, hanging at 15ft in 30 feet of water as there is no real reference point.
All that is required for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
