release question
has anyone used the laurvick release with the alligator clips? Am trying to figure out what I like better. Found some of these the other day and they look much easier to use than some of the other ones out there. Thanks for the input.

are you talking about downrigger releases?? the chamberlain release is the best rigger release out there. you can check them out at downriggerrelease.com and watch the video. they are made a lot like the blacks release but have a second adjustment for the tension for the lure so the fish pulling on the lure will trip the release.

Release
Best I have found is a shower curtain hook, plastic clothes pin, & #16 rubberband from staples. Cheap and very functional.

Same here. Or you can use small paper binding clips instead of the clothes pin to hold the rubber band. For Steelies and bigger eyes out of Wheatley, I just use the shower curtain ring and the rubber band. No need for anything else.
One tip with riggers, add a 12-18" steel leader to the back of your cannon-ball and attach your release to that. This allows you to see if there is a junk fish on the line, as you can see the rod tip move. It is pretty sweet when you see the rod tip bounce right before the release & then the drag starts singing from a steelie taking line. Love it....
