Typically 1oz for every 10ft of water. But if the wave action is really lifting and dropping use a heavier bouncer. I have bouncers up to 8oz as I can stagger bouncers with the rods closer together by staggering the weights, the lighter, the further from the boat the bouncer will be. I troll with them like that also, the most forward rod is the heaviest bouncer the each rod after that is another 2oz lighter than the one in front of it. I typically use my regular 4 to 5 ft harnesses. A lot of times the bouncers perform better 3 to 5 cranks up after finding bottom with the longer harness for me.
I can only hope I have earned the freedom that has been given me.
