How about channel 24? Just trying to get some channel ideas thrown out there. Several of us seem to think its a good idea, but no channel suggestion have been made. Guess I'll start with suggesting Ch 24.

I agree any channel that is not full of chatter. I run 79 and 80 alot it would be nice to find one close to that. There are alot of charters and locals on thoes two. what about 81? That would be easy to nav from because they are close.

81 is fine with me. I usually run "tri-watch" on my radio and monitor 3 channels simultaneously so any channel not full of chatter is fine with me. Lets get 5 people to agree on 81 and call it done. I guess me and Gettin Jiggy make 2.
Also, being I cant remember all of Walleye.com's members names, how should we handle hailing each other? A simple "walleye.com...walleye.com...this is Island Runner over..." be fine? Then any walleye.com member can reply as for example "Island Runner...Island Runner...this is walley.com member Gettin Jiggy over..."
That seems good to me. Any other thoughts or comments?Wellcraft 3200 Coastal T-454s

Just checked channel designations and 81 is Government only. 84,85, and 86 are open.

Number doesn't matter, I think this is an awesome idea out there all the time just never know what station everyone is running on that posts on here. plus beins its pretty hard to get signal out there on these so called "smart phones" would be benificial. I will be anxious to see what everyone decides on.

Re: radio channels
If things are like I think they are, the channels you are talking about 24 and 84 are marine operator channels that were designated by the FCC for use in public sea to shore telephone communication. They are encripted meaning you can only hear one side of the conversation. They are also ( or at least used to be) used by Telephone companies only. A lot has changed in the last few years but be aware there may be problems with these selections. That's the very reason the Non-Com channlels are all cluttered. The rest are all off limits for reports and day to day hailing and chatter.
