trolling questions
how do you guys troll reef runners? Do you long line or troll with planer boards. Do you use wait to get them down where you need them. how much line do you let out. Also do you ever run crawler harness along with the reef runners.
Thanks for your help.

reef runners
I use planner boards. There is a booklet that shows depth as more line is let back of the board, the deeper the lure goes. Also trolling speed controls depth. Get the booklet, very helpful.

Most guys troll Reef Runners off of "off shore" inline planer boards. Some do flatline, but most use the inline boards.
The book that is being talked about is "Precision Trolling". Get the newest available. The book updates nearly every year.

You can strait line troll Reef Runners
I seem to get more fish that way then on the in line boards
The in line boards help if you trolling more then 2 lines
And it get's the lines away from the boat
The book is very helpfull
But if you don't have the book
If your trolling the Little Rippers (600's)
Start with 40' back = 11' down
30' = 10', 45' = 12' and 60' = 14'
On the 800's
22' = 10', 32' = 12' and 40' = 14' down
I start with 30' back and then adjust as needed
For me in Breast Bay
I've caught allmost all the fish 10' to 12' down over 20 fow
the fish on the bottom could or could not be active (feeding)
the fish that are suspended are active fish. There feeding on bait fish
And just remember
A fish will come up for a lure, but they will not chase one below them
Better to be high then low
I start with one side high and the other side low

Dont forget the meat rig
I always put my longest lines out the furthest ( I use Otter Boards) and I wlways run a meat rig on the inside line. 1 oz weight w/ worm harness 4' back. Last saturday all they would hit were the meat rigs. Needless to say I was running them 6 at a time. Recommend running them 30-40' back and keep playing with them till ya get a bite and see a pattern.
C ya on the water
