15 inch walleye limit
Heads up guys, The ODNR is really checking the size of the fish very close. I do my best to be an ethical sportsman but we even got ticketed for having one walleye that measured 1/4 inch shy of 15 inches today. ODNR guys were very professional and polite despite my mistake. Just want to let everyone know.........could save you $88.00
They told me they are especially checking right now because there is an abundance of fish "just shy" of the 15 inch mark being caught.

Very true
Thanks for the heads up and its good advice. Make sure to measure accurately. We have been picking a lot of fish at 15-16 in. I usually don't keep a walleye unless it is 18 in. but I am rethinking this philosophy. I have been pulling two man tickets the last few times out, but it is taking a while since we throw back that many 15 inchers.

Thanks for the info. I'd rather eat the 15" - 18" fish than the 24"ers.

The DNR is very concerned with the population of Walleye as they have dropped dramatically over the last several years. Taking under age fish out does not help that equation. Along with the algae boom the Wildlife and DNR are in a real bad frame of mind right now!!

population concern
I do agree that the walleye population has been a concern, but a fish that is a quarter of an inch under size will be legal in a matter of days so I doubt it would contribute to population problem. Don't get me wrong, legal is legal and undersize is illegal. I rarely even keep a 15 inch fish but things were slow for us.
At any rate, lesson very much learned.

On a similar note. Anyone docking in Anchor point or Mienke's West: Be advised DNR and Watercraft officers are hot and heavy. Have all your saftey gear in order. They have been checking chaters and rec. boaters alike even boarding them in the channel and escorting them back to thier docks. It's a good idea to check everything mid season anyway. Safe boating.
