Re: High Big Fish
That still is an amazing day to get 16 fish that average 9 lbs.Our best day was back in October 2012.I can remember that date because we wanted to go back out again the following week to try and catch those huge fish again. But hurricane Sandy came through 2 days after our memorable day and turned the lake to mud.We caught one smaller fish the following week.We were fishing the Vermillion dump.10 of our 15 fish were FO and our weight was like 85 lbs.Would have caught our limit but my 79 yr old dad was driving the boat and we had another huge fish we were trying to net.I was holding the net and the reeler yelled to turn the boat either right or left to help net the fish. But he was looking back.So when my dad turned the way he wanted it was the opposite direction because my dad my looking forward. So my dad turned around in the driver seat to see what we were doing and started to fall out of the seat cuss his feet were no longer touching the floor in the swivel seat.I was holding the net and that big fish was still back there.I leaned over toward my dad holding him up with my hip and knowing I had only one stab at the fish I had to take right away.Luckly I netted the fish and was able to grab my dad before he hit the deck. But as my dad was falling out of his seat he was holding on the steering wheel and turned the boat 90 degrees. We had out 6 lines on big boards. The captain was able to lift both outboards out of the water and did not wrap any line in the prop but the huge tangle took us 30 min to fix.Decided to head in after that.I believe all those huge fish were from that record 2003 hatch. They were all 9 yr old fish.We were running reef runners and double willow harnesses.A day I will not forget.
